Any Other Long Haired Rabble Out There?
Hair can certainly be a Kilt Accessory. Long hair maybe kinda goes with female fantasies from kilts and bodice-ripper novels....hope, hope, hope...
Mostly I just wear mine in a pony tail. Have metal Celtic design hair tie thingies but the thin bands they need to work are rough on hair and gave them up for the less damaging plain hair ties.
Its fun to wear my long hair down, particularly with them Ren type shirts...
Or, when at a Ren Faire have it French Braided...
When I used to work at the walk-in psychiatric crisis center down down in Phoenix one of the nurses used to love to French braid my hair and would do so whenever things were quiet. Of course the clients that showed up after would stare...maybe it helped them readjust to reality wondering what was up with the olde guy in French braids.
Not all ladies know how to French braid, but they all know how to do a regular braid and seem to enjoy it. Its also a great way to wear long hair when its very windy out. Or assuming the position for a kilt inspection.
I often also wear my hair in a Navajo bun. That's common for men around here. Don't have a pic of it. You basically fold the pony tail up a bunch of times so the result is a fist size wad of hair hanging from where your pony tail hair tie is. Then you wrap one or two hair ties around the wad to hold it. Great for swimming or hot tubbing to keep the long hair from coming loose and messing up the pool or hot tub filter. The Navajo bun is also good in windy situations or where you want your hair out of the way.
So...who else has long hair and how do you wear it with your kilts?

Well River, not as long as yours. Just down to T1-T2. Any longer and it gets terribly tangled after a motorcycle ride. It used to be fuller until the recession started. Now I am among the follicly challenged.
What was that 60s song? Give me a head with HAIR, down to here, down to there....

Ya, Ron, I'm a long haired country boy. I usually pull all my hair back into a ponytail, and put one hair tie at the top when I dress up in a kilt.
I too have been attacked and french braided a couple of times.
I know, from the paintings, that men like George Washington and other founding fathers, etc wor their hair long, or wore a wig of long hair.
I have no idea if kilted folk of the past wore their hair long.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

I purposly changed my avitar for my response in an effort to show my long hair. After reading the 9 pages of responses on X-Marks forum change possibilities it struck me that I may have overstepped the allowed image content. That is the weaponry restriction, the muzzleload rifle leaning against the bench.
If indeed I have, please send me a personal message and I will remove said offending avitar. It was not my intent to push the envelope and here by apoligize if the image is deemed offensive.

Well, I don't really count since I'm a gal. My hair is a little out of the ordinary though, since it's mid-calf, so I thought I'd reply anyway. I rarely wear it down because even braids get caught in stuff. I'll sometimes leave it down and loose, except for pulling the upper part back and holding it away from my face with a barrette or a hairslide. Sometimes I'll do a single braid. I wish I were a little more skilled, but it's hard to learn more things with hair this long. I did learn how to french braid at one point a few years ago, but I just don't mess with that much anymore. One of the things I would LOVE to learn how to do when I am wearing a kilted skirt or a sash or something is to wrap the braids around my head and do a crown braid. Maybe even weaving ribbon around the braid to help hold it securely. Then again, hubby loves it when I wear it down for special occasions, so I guess doing that for kilt nights works just fine for now.
Now, as far as my hubby Christopher... *sighs* He did try to grow his hair out. He has very dark, curly hair and was trying to grow it out like a character in the show Numb3rs (Charlie Eppes). His job unfortunately had a problem with it even though that really isn't long -- and the weirdest part is, a lot of people at his job have long hair. For whatever reason, they (as in two people -- everyone else LOVES his hair like that) want him with short hair *shrugs* I've begged him to at least grow it out enough where I can see the beautiful curl. He looks better when he doesn't cut it too short. There are various versions of that character's hair at different lengths, so I'm sure we'll figure out just the right style that will make everyone happy
Maybe someday he'll be able to grow it out the way he -- and his wife! -- likes it! Again, it may not be *that* long, but showing off those gorgeous dark curls, and having a bit of scruff on the face, but still looking nice and groomed... oh yes indeed! That gets my heart pounding! (plus, with his size and build, it frames his face and balances his look a lot better than a really short haircut).
Lovely hair, Ron!

Ron, my hair is not as long as yours and never has been. Mine was recently trimmed rather substantially, but even before, I just wore it down.

Ron,
Yup. I'm another one with long hair and long beard. Eastern Orthodox monks (like myself) are expected to not trim their hair or beards. It's supposed to be an anti-vanity thing - we're not supposed to care what we look like.
It usually just gets put into a pony tail to keep it out of my face. Sometimes I'll put it in a "twisty" bun, to keep it even more out of the way. That's about it.
