    Dougie MacLean

I’ve been enthralled with this Homecoming Scotland advert and been watching it repeatedly. I wondered who the writer Dougie MacLean of the song Caledonia, featured in the advert is. So a little googling showed me he is also the writer of another song I love, The Gael, or better know by most as the theme song of The Last of the Mohicans.

Here’s some links you may enjoy.
    Caledonia performed by Dougie MacLean,
Caledonia performed by the Celtic Woman

The Gael performed by Dougie MacLean
The Gael performed by Clann an Drumma

Captmac and I attended the Portland OR performance by Dougie Maclean on Thursday last. It was a great show. Intimate theater, Dougie and his guitar. No band, no fancy electronics, just a troubador (his words) and his music and a lots of enthusiastic fans. If you can catch his show on this tour, do it! Captmac was the only kilted guy in the theater, which was a bit of a disapointment, but it was a great evening none the less.

Not all of us are as lucky as Victoria and CaptMac to have Dougie perform near them. I visited his website and ordered The Essential Dougie MacLean, a two CD set. It didn't take long for it to be shipped across the pond. He is one talented musician. It's a great set of CDs to have.

If you want a real treat, he owns a pub on one of the islands. Lewis, I think.

His wife is an artist and some of her work graces his album covers. I have both their autographs.
