    A dressier antler sgian dubh

Some of you may remember that I was the happy recipient of one of Kresent's nice blades. That’s it below as I first got it.

Well I have been wearing it casually and have had several nice comments. So I thought I would try to make it a little dressier and try it with the PC. So this afternoon, I spent some time with my dremel set and then mounted a nice piece of turquoise . You see the almost finished product below. After the glue sets up over night, I’ll buff it out again.

    What do you think?

Everyone here is so handy. That's nice, I like turquoise a lot. It adds a unique flair and sets off the already great craftsmanship.

Very appropriate combination, too. I like it, and I bet Riverkilt will really like it.

Thanks - I think so too. I am now in search of a piece of bead work to put on the front of a rather mediocre sporran.

Considering the interplay between our native American tribes and the Scottish clans, it just seems a natural.

I like it. I was thinking an inlaid/engraved piece of silver would work while I was making it. That is much more dressy.

Thanks Kresent, now I feel vindicated for screwing with your work.... I was worried that you wouldn't like it. It should look even better when I can buff it.

Hey have you ever tried a stacked leather handled sgian dubh? I used to make those all the time, and the leather really looks nice when buffed.

You just make a bunch of leather washers, stack them on the shaft or tang, tighten them down as much as possible, cut, file to shape and then buff the dickens out of it.
