    Celtic Cross Kilt Pins

During the summer I placed an order with Matt Newsome for the St. Columba tartan in a box pleat and belted plaid. Early this fall seeing Matt had a special on the St. Patrick tartan I succumbed to an impulse buy and order it box pleated.

Jonesing for my kilts, I realized that the typical claymore kilts pins would not be the most appropriate. As I thought more about it, I remembered my friends a Canterbury Pewter had Celtic Crosses with a theme of Noah and the flood in different sizes.

In contacting them, I would meet Leif Johnston at the shop and he made me up the following crosses. (The Malcolm Kilt pin is shown for comparison purposes. Plaid is Malcolm tartan)

    Here’s the Noah Celtic Cross

This one has the Chi Rho in the middle. I understand Columba actually used the Chi Rho cross as what we know as the Celtic Cross wouldn’t be developed for another two hundred years.

Now, if I can only get those kilts. Hmm, what else might help through this?

Buying hose is always good. Ask Matt to help you pick out a pair of the Lewis kilt hose to go with the St. Columba, and see how your feet like them. My feet think they are the best thing since merino wool. Note however that my feet like wool, period.

Nice pins! I'll bet the whole ensemble is stunning.

These look like pendants, as opposed to pins. Did you turn them into pins somehow?

Right. Leif added a jeweler's pin and clasp on the back making the pendant in to (kilt)pin.
