Ghillie Brogues with Buckles, A La CMcG

Some time ago CMcG put together some excellent instuctions, together with photos, of how to attach buckles to standard Ghillie brogues using the laces. At the time I mentioned that I had acquired some cheap buckles and would attempt the same. I had occasion to wear them about a week ago and thought I would put up a couple of photos

We were attending a black tie function and this was our mode of transport for the evening

Very nice! And that looks like a super cool evening! The dining car is almost as impressive as the two of you. What was the occasion?

Thanks Mickey, it's a take on Murder on the Orient Express, where you board the train, served entree's during a 40 minute ride to an old packing shed, where you are informed that there has been a murder on the train. During the evening and dinner you are allowed to question the "suspects" and various "evidence" is provided for your perusal. The suspects are an actors group who take on various roles during the night. It is set in the late 20's early 30's and you are asked to dress black tie of that era. It's a great night with approx 100 attending. The tickets were a birthday present from my lovely wife

Sounds like my kind of evening! I have long been in love with old steamers, but to be able to attend a whodunit mystery while on board had to have been a fantastic evening indeed!!!

Lucky man you are! And both of you are quite well dressed!

Very nice! I was hoping it was something like that. The setting is perfect and it looks like you two fit in perfectly. How fun!

Well done, Downunder Kilt! Those turned out nicely and certainly make a striking alternative to regular ghillie brogues or bar and buckle brogues. Of course one could just wear regular, well polished Oxfords, but buckle ghillie brogues definitely add a bit of extra pizzazz. Also, it sounds like a fun evening

Don't suppose you have a full length picture of yourself wearing them?

And another showing a bit of kilt and hose

Well Done, Sir! You and your lovely lass look absolutely splendid!

The tank engine and dining car are real beauties as well, did they give you any info on your locomotive and rolling stock?

I don't normally like to be such a blatant imitator, but when the result looks that good, I'll make an exception!

Looks like I've a CMcG thread to hunt down...

Is that a regulation doublet? Super alternative to a PC. You both look great!

Artificer, I don't have the info in my head, but if you are intrested, you can google "Puffing Billy" Melbourne Australia. It is a tourist train that runs in the hills close to Melbourne. I can remember going on it as a young lad with my parents some 45 years ago. One of the favourite things that kids used to do was to put pennies on the line and have them flatted by the engine as in went over them, instant souvenier. They also have Jazz nights, special luncheon trains and the daily trips to a picnic area.

LitTrog, yes it is a Regulation doublet, that another member of the forum put me onto that was on Ebay, got it for a steal in the end. If you can see in the photos, the posie on my left lapel is held in a solid silver nosegay holder, which was another present from my lovey wife
