    Kilt Pin Size?

Just wondering what sizes of pins everyone uses... i'd rather like to avoid the generic 'family-crest-on-a-claymore'...

One i've got my eye on is a sterling silver maple leaf that's about 1.5" x 1 3/8"... y'all think this would be big enough?

    Casper,

There are no rules about the size of a kilt pin. The X-Marks kilt pin is slightly over 1.5 inches in diameter, so the maple leaf pin you mentioned is nearly the same size.

There are three I use most often. A slim silver thistle for formal, a couple inches long, a pair of crossed snowshoes about 1"x.5", and the communicator pin from Star Trek: The Next Generation, which is a big honkin' chunk of metal, perfect for my tank but to heavy for my SWK.

Casper, I think that would be perfect (what's the weight on it?)

I use a USMC emblem from my dress blue cover:

It's about an inch and a half in diameter.

I've seen photos of guys stacking a bunch of pins. Have fun with it.

That should work, my personal preference is for something a wee bit larger, however if you like the pin, than go for it.

Where do you wear the pin? What's it for?

You wear it on the lower right hand corner of the outter apron of the kilt. It serves a dual purpose -- it provides weight to the apron, to help keep it down in a breeze; it also adds that touch of bling. It can also show affliation to a clan, or an organization such as the Navy or (more popularly around here) the Marine Corps.
