Recent ebay full-mask badger sporran acquisition
A couple of weeks ago, I won an auction for a Craigie full-mask badger sporran on ebay. The sporran has the badger's feet/claws as tassels.
I've been wanting a badger mask sporran for some time, but was put off by the size and fluffiness of most of those that are available commercially. The scale of this sporran is about like those of others I have, and the fur is trimmed fairly closely to the bag. Additionally, the fur only appears on the front and flap of the sporran, rather than around the entire sporran as is the case with many I've seen.
I know full-mask sporrans aren't for everyone, and that many have expressed a preference for European badgers over their American cousins, but I think this particular sporran strikes a good balance. The taxidermy is excellent, and includes a portion of the lower jaw. Overall, I'm quite pleased with the sporran for the price.
And the back, for a size comparison to my prized Artificer #11:
Cheers,
SM

Looks great! I've been wanting one just like that one myself! I'm a fan of full mask badger sporrans.

Nice catch. I was watching the same one but unfortunately was travelling when the auction was coming to conclusion so could not jump into the fray. Very glad it went to an appreciative new owner.

That is beautiful. I have not much desire for a full mask but I have always felt that the badger was the one to have if I had one. They are tough, wily animals. That is really, really nice. Thanks for showing it.

I saw that sporran on Shaun in person a couple of weeks ago, and it looks great. Usually I notice full-mask badger sporrans because they stand out so boldly. This one actually took a while for me to notice. I think Shaun is correct that the size and proportion makes a huge difference. It's got all the character and style of a traditional full-mask badger sporran, but doesn't look huge and goofy like some tend to do.

Shaun, when I saw in the first line that it was a Craigie, I thought that it was going to be an open mouthed, snarling version that I had seen on their site when it was operational, but mate, this one is spot on. From your comparison photo I think it is a great size and very nicely presented. I think you got the pick of the litter on full face Craigie sporrans, Wear it in good health mate

I'm going to try and make one . bought a stole now need a mask . The orignal Black Watch sporrans were made of otter and badger ..probably raw hide per "Sons of the Mountains" book by Col. Mac- . They pulled guard duty here in NY Fr-Ind War . Who's guess how far they were form military of 1800's .
