What struck me was the cut of the waistcoat, as for the hose they too are very nice. I went back through the Prince Charles in a kilt thread and have found this link to Wendy Keith Designs.

Wendy Keith, of Wendy Keith Designs, was honoured to be granted The Royal Warrant by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, as Designers and Makers of Shooting Stockings and Kilt Hosiery in 2005.

There's no reason why that couldn't happen, Sandy.

I see a strong resemblance between HRH the Prince of Wales and his late grandfather. Does anybody else notice it?

I have noticed the same thing more since HRH the Duke of Rothesay's hair has turned white, although he is now a good few years older than his late grandfather was at the time of his death in 1952. I also noticed watching the past Queen's Speech online that Her Majesty had started to resemble her grandmother Queen Mary. I remarked on it to my wife, because I had never noticed the likeness before.

Yes, I've never seen a waistcoat cut like that. It seems to be some sort of hybrid between a straight-hemmed waistcoat of the Regency period and a modern peak-hemmed waistcoat. The hem appears to be straight across at the very front, framed by two widely-spaced peaks that are nearly covered by the jacket. Quite unique to my experience. Can anyone shed some light on this?

It's just a style of waistcoat often worn with the kilt so that the waistcoat doesn't interfere with the sporran. Nothing really unique about it. The Duke of Edinburgh wears waistcoats like that.

You know, when people start to complain about the Royals costing money, just show them those two pics of Prince Phillip. I'd say that he's wearing the SAME waistcoat and jacket more than 20yrs apart!

    Re: Eisenhower & George VI

Thanks for the photos Sandy, I suppose this cut of waistcoat is perhaps one that we are not used to seeing anymore as many shops do not carry it as off the peg. Having said that if I were having a jacket and waistcoat made for me this is one look I`d at least entertain.

Dixiecat yes that does look like the same jacket and waistcoat, as well it looks like the same sporran.
