    Eventual Mink Sporran

Here's my latest eBay score -- 5 mink pelts for $18 shipped! They are smallish but a nice color and in good condition, very supple with no crackling noise as I move them around. My mother had one of these stoles and I may still have it packed away somewhere, but I was happy to find this one for such a low price. Not sure exactly what it will become (singular and plural projects, perhaps) -- only that the finished item will NOT feature any faces, feet, or biting!

How much fur can you get out of them (width wise)?

Five to six inches is my guess, without having disassembled one. I'll either trim out with leather or patch two together for a sporran width. Maybe just the top flap in fur, who knows?

I did some checking a couple weeks ago and there were several mink, fox, ermine, and chinchilla stoles on ebay which seemed good condition and quality, many which still had faces and feet attached. We are not talking about pelts, but finished stoles. If I had a more creative bone in my body I would consider snagging a couple and seeing what kind of sporrans might come out of them. Many, as Sydnie's above were going pretty cheap.

Why not go for a whole coat? After the anti-fur protests years ago there must be dozens languishing in cupboards, never to see the light of day again.
