My lining
When I made my current kilt I decided to use a white lining reasoning that since I was using a dress tartan that dark lining and the cream of muslin would show through. Since this was a kilt for highland dancing, I needed a hardwearing white lining that wouldn't rot or discolour from the byproducts of exertion and hot summer competitions. I eventually chose pillow ticking. It's perfect for the application but hand sewing it is quite tough due to the tight weave. After enduring the stitching that secured the lining pieces together I'd had enough and when it came to sewing in the dart-like folds I tried a bit of fancy work instead.

This is just large cross stitching.

It's held in place for two years now and looks good.
