Dutch Friendship Tartan thread count/colors
My wife is first generation american of pure dutch descent. She loves the Dutch Friendship Tartan colors and pattern, but unfortunately has a significant allergy to wool of any type (I have to get kisses and hugs before I put on a sweater or kilt or other wool apparel) so she cannot wear the wool tartan. We got a weaver to make a non-wool shawl in the DFT colors and approximate sett, which the weaver retrieved supposedly from the Scottish Tartan Authority itself. Unfortunately what we got was in maroon, black, two shades of green, and a thin pink stripe (the pink is the only one I think is right), which is what she says the STA sett prescribes. From what we see on the DFT website and in pictures of the tartan in use it is predominantly tan, orange and navy blue, with the pink stripe accent. She is more than willing to re-weave the shawl in the colors we desire but without either a piece of the tartan to match (not exactly easy to come by) or someone with the proper color scheme (she has the sett, just needs the colors to fill it in) we are just kind of guessing.
Anybody out there have the tartan who can look at the fringe edge and give us the pure thread colors in the order they appear in the actual tartan? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Canuck (Robert at RKilts) has a beautiful DFT. You could try pm-ing him for info.

Or PM Matt Newsome ('M.A.C. Newsome') if Canuck cannot give the answer you seek.

To the best of my knowledge I am the only one in North America with a licensed DFT kilt.

First off there isn't any pink. It's lavender,
Yes there is two shades of green, a navy blue, burnt orange and light brown.
no black
Cheers
Robert

Thanks Canuck. The order of the sett (starting with the lavender stripe)seems to be thin lavender, thin navy, light green, light brown, navy, orange, medium light green, thin orange, medium light green, thin navy, then the reverse back to the thin lavender. I might have the greens and light brown backwards, so if you can clarify that it would be great. Once I get the golor scheme I am sure our weaver can match the colors for us. Thanks again.

And I may be joining you in the north american DFT kilt club---it is probably the only tartan my wife will ever wear and I think it would be nice to match her sometimes when we go out. Just have to have her mother translate the DFT website so I have some idea how to order it, since I don't speak or read dutch.

I'm so glad that I found this thread!
Since I live in the former colony of New Amsterdam, in a section of the city named for a Dutchman, and have a surname which is often taken as Dutch by the Dutch, this tartan would be perfect for me.
Robert, is the tartan available through your website?

Actually you will see Robin of Kilt Goodies modeling his DFT kilt.
