Hello Sigismond, as far as I know the Montgomery(Montgomerie) clan does not have a plant badge. Others may say different. Do you, by any chance, come from Normandy? Oh and welcome, from Inverness-shire.

Jock,
Have you ever seen plant worn as a badge where you live? When was the last time? How is or was it usually worn?

The only time I have seen the plant badge(juniper) worn is when the Atholl Highlanders parade.I think they only wear it when The Duke has his annual parade,I stand to be corrected here.
.Other than that, hardly ever and never by ordinary people going about their daily business.
As I understand it, in the distant past, the clans wore the easiest plant that they could get hold of to help identify "their" side as opposed to the "others" in battle.A blue on blue situation was a problem then,in battle, as it is now.

Yes Jock, I come from Normandy. I have lonks with Macalpine, Robertson, Montgomerie and Hay clans. And Hay and Montgomerie are clan which take their origin in Normandy in french we say "la boucle est bouclée", in english, I don't know.
The links are far in the past but I "know", I feel, my ancesters were scots long time ago... Now, I just wear taratan scarves to go to my job dreaming riding in the high or lowlands :-)
