Black Buffalo Hide Thorfinn Custom Sporran
I began a dialogue with fellow Xmarks member, turpin, almost exactly one month ago. I mentioned that I was interested in one of his unique Snap Flap leather sporrans. I expressed an interest in black leather to be both versatile and minimalist. tupin mentioned that he had a nice black buffalo hide that he thought would fit my description well. I "pulled the trigger" exactly two weeks ago today. turpin informed me on Friday that the commission was completed and that it was ready to ship. I didn't expect it to arrive quite so quickly, but I sure was excited when I found it in the post this afternoon!
To say that I am pleased would do this fine piece of craftsmanship injustice. There is so much attention to detail in his work. The bag is huge! The phone pocket and key clip are really great additions as well. Everything about this sporran is top notch and I will wear it with pride.
I offer the rabble pictorial proof of this very sporran:

Awesome brotha, a fine work indeed! I really like the added comforts inside, that's neat!

Very nice. It looks sturdy, practical, but also has some flair. I really like the metal beads on the strings and the concho.

Missing my TCS today...
I know I only received it Monday afternoon, but I have worn it every opportunity since then. I decided to wear trousers today and I already miss my new sporran.
I always have to take my crap out of my trouser pockets when I sit down at my work desk or my legs will go numb. Not a problem with the TCS! I've also noticed that it doesn't flop about like my cheaper sporrans tend to do. I think that must be because the TCS is a bit more substantial so it stays in place as I walk.
It's so darn utilitarian, too. My SO tends to not carry a purse and before I started wearing kilts all of her crap would join mine in my trouser pockets. As you can imagine, that can get bulky quick. My cheaper sporrans would barely fit all of our stuff and if we ever had to get at anything in it we had to basically pull everything out. The TCS is so roomy that these issues are no more! I can carry all of my crap and hers and everything is easily accessible. If it wouldn't look so odd, I might start wearing the TCS even with trousers.
Yeah, I'm pretty pleased with this sporran. It's a great design and turpin is a pleasure to work with.

I'm glad you're pleased with the result. That hide has a lot of character and will only get better as you use it.

Do like I do - I purchased some sporran hangers from Oconee and carry my sporran as a pouch hooked onto my p@nts belt when I'm not kilted. I tend to hang it off my left hip as I use the right for the keys, pager, etc - keeps me balanced. And, I've never received a negative comment about it -- just several admiring ones

He does wonderful work. I splurged on a brown lether snap flap a year or so ago and Sydnie added some extra flaps for me and I am very happy. Three of the flaps I have are inset with scraps of the tartans I wear and they really set off the kilt. Great sporran and great craftsmanship.
