Clan Scott Gathering & Muster of the Clans -2

A view of Bowhill House and estate from the hill road, taken on my way to the Muster this morning. Such a fine setting for a major international gathering, in Bowhill Estate which occupies the wedge of land between the Ettrick and Yarrow valleys.

It did not take very long for me to set up the Clan Cunningham table in the genealogy marquee.

All that was needed was a Cunningham to bring the table to life.

Before the crowds arrive, some shots of some other clan tables - Clan Armstrong.

    Clan Home

Clan Irving, you will note as this thread progresses that tartan trews are popular wear for the lowland and border clans, but there were plenty of kilts too.

    Clan Nesbitt / Nisbet

    Clan Johnston / Johnstone

    Clan Kerr

    Clan Scott .

    Clan Jardine

    Clan Turnbull

    Pringle clan

Clan Borthwick, with the chief himself, Lord Borthwick.

    Lauder and Maitland families.

The Lochcarron tent, nearly ready for the public to arrive.

    The usual suspects

From the entrance to the genealogy tent the public can be seen to have started to arrive shortly after ten in the morning.

Three members of Melrose Pipe Band begin to warm up.
    More to follow shortly.

Lisa James, Colorado Commissioner to Clan Scott Society, with other members of the Colorado contingent.

This gentleman from Toronto Canada visited Clan Cunningham table. He was wearing the Clark tartan which he said was a modern variation of Clergy tartan.

My next visitor had travelled from the USA.

The massed bands led the March of the Clans into the arena.

    Taking the Salute

    The Maple Leaf

    Young Scotts

Following behind the Chief of Clan Borthwick and his cousin, with a Turnbull flying his banner further ahead.

    Clan Riddell

    Clan Nesbitt / Nisbet

    Clan Home

To march around the arena to the rousing music of the massed bands, following behind the Stars and Stripes and the Maple Leaf, and in the footsteps of Chiefs of other clans, as the proud representative of Clan Cunningham, to listen to the rousing applause, to receive shouted words of encouragement from people in the watching crowd when they recognise your surname on your placard, to hear Cunningham called out by compere Alistair Hutton, what an atmosphere, for me this was the pinnacle of Homecoming Scotland 2009. This final shot at the end of the March of the Clans as we stand still while the band conclude by playing Highland Cathedral.
I'd never before had the opportunity to represent my clan in an International Clan March and this was a truly proud and emotional moment to savour for many years. Thats all for now folks, will post a third and final picture thread from the Muster tomorrow evening.

    Looks like a great day!
I'm gutted that I have no known lowland blood
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

Even I have a little lowland blood! My Fleming forebearers came from Fife, and my Hall forebearers came from Clackmannanshire.

    Cheers,
    Sandford

PS. Alex, those are grand pics!!! Thanks for sharing them.
