    Harris Tweed - an update

I mentioned here a few months ago that I was making a video of my trip to Lewis to see Harris Tweed being made. Well, as usual, I got 99% of the editing done within a few days, and the other 1% took until last night. But if you're interested, it's now online at:
    http://www.scotweb.co.uk/info/the-ma...-harris-tweed/

If anyone feels moved to link to this on their own web site or blog etc. (for which we'd be hugely grateful) please link only to that web address, and not direct to YouTube where it's hosted. I may make changes, and the youtube address is liable to change.

And by the way, I also mentioned at the time that we'd soon be offering tartans in Harris Tweed. Well, we still are. But it's now going to be the summer before they're available, as we want to do the job properly, which includes a major operation to show the yarns available. So watch this space. The plus-side is that you should then be able to design your own! How cool is that? :-)

Well done Nick! I knew that there were a lot of processes for the wool to go through, but not that many! The song in the background? I seem to remember hearing that sung as a wee lad, was it sung by the ladies that sat around a long table whilst the did something (kneaded it?) to the length of cloth? I suppose that particular process went years ago!

Question answered on the third time of listening! Yes is the answer. Can I wish you all the very best with this enterprise Nick.

Now this may sound as though I know what I am doing -------I don't, but if you go to Nick's link, up comes--- nothing where you might expect to see the video . If you go to the bottom right of that link and press "youtube" up it will come. I found it by accident.

I have repeated "my" process twice more and it still works.

Atta-boy Jock, well done. As for the Harris Tweed, I surely do miss my Harris Tweed jacket, unfortunately it has shrunk over the years to the point where my son can wear it. At least the Harris Tweed stands up to wear well enough that I was able to pass it down to him. A kilt made from such fabric ought to outlast its owner, and definately be a family heirloom.

    Thanks, Nick (and Jock )

I thought that must be waulking songs in the background; and sure enough, Nick did say so.

    THANKS! It worked.

THANKS! I was able to view the video.

Hand powered (or foot powered ) is not what I expected from the frequent mention of hand made (also hand wovern) when refering to Harris Tweed.

Hmm... I'm now getting that same symptom myself. I'll ask our techs to diagnose and fix it tomorrow. Meanwhile, yes, it's viewable too at http://www.youtube.com/TartanKiltsByScotweb
But as I said, if you want to link to it, please do so to the Scotweb address, not the youtube one. (It will work shortly - promise!)
