I live near Chicago. Since I started wearing kilts five years ago, I have always been a little jealous of people who have kilts in their official state tartan. For you see, Illinois did not have one.
I just found out that the Illinois Saint Andrew Society tartan was officially adopted as the state tartan in 2012. It's registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans, STA Ref 2051. The Scottish Register of Tartans site still says that it has not been adopted as the official state tartan, but the announcement of the passage of hb4492 (the law that enacted the tartan as official) says differently. The Wikipedia list of State Tartans also needs to be updated.
I haven't found a good photo of it yet, but the pics I have seen look darned good to my eye. Here is the best pic I have found.
I sent an email to the Illinois Saint Andrew Society asking about the tartan and asking if there is any yardage available. I hope there is. I'd love to have a kilt in this tartan.
