    Kilt Giveaway!

    Dear Rabble,

I've been thinking about some of the threads and recent comments on the forum lately. I would simply like to express my appreciation, gratitude, and gladness to have had such a cool group of people with which to share my interests and passions.

It may not always show in some of our postings, but I think I speak for most of us when I say that the sentiment is also mutual among others. I, for one would like to perhaps help restore some of the faith in the people on XMTS, and maybe help spread the message that this really is an alright bunch of people. The Quaich project was (and IS) a great way to develop camaraderie and friendship, but why stop with just that?

Even though 2010 was a very tough year for us, punctuated by the passing of loved ones, financial troubles, and instabilities in work and life in general, we were also VERY blessed. In spite of it all, I know I still have far more than many others and would like to pay that forward in a tangible way.

My kilt kloset is in the dire need of pruning... (And my wife told me that I'm not allowed to get any more until I lose a few of the ones I already have)... There are kilts in there that I haven't worn for upwards of a year and I just don't see myself wearing them anytime soon, as I've since acquired (and will acquire) others.

I would therefore like to give away some kilts for adoption into good homes.

    I have 3:

    1. Stillwater Nightstalker (acrylic standard). Waist: 36" / standard length

    2. Kiltmart Hunting Stewart (acrylic 4-yarder). Waist: 36" / standard length

    3. M. H. Geoffrey & Co. (Pakistan) Black Watch (8-yard acrylic). Waist: 38" / standard length

The Nightstalker is sentimental for me, as it was my first tartan kilt! I was stoked when I first received it and first wore it! That is something I'll never forget, but it's also time to let someone else experience that feeling! This kilt also comes with matching flashes.

The Hunting Stewart was my second kilt. It has served me well on numerous hiking trips and expeditions to the local. It was my go-to summer kilt for quite some time but I do now have an adequate replacement for it in my kollection.

The Black Watch came as part of a package with my Prince Charlie jacket from H.M. Geoffrey in Pakistan (not to be confused with Geoffrey Tailor UK). I've worn this numerous times, but was never quite happy with the fit. It also says 38" on it, but I think it may be a wee bit smaller than that. Not sure.

All three kilts have some signs of wear, and being acrylic have a bit of pilling. No biggie, just give 'em a bit of a shave and they'll be fine. Just please be aware that these kilts are NOT new... They are are loved and worn... But I will wash and press them before I send them out to anyone.

Anyway, here are my conditions for the giveaway.

    1. The main purpose here is to help out people who are new (or fairly new) to kilts and may not have the funds to invest in one at the moment. I would like these kilts to go to someone who currently has zero (0) or one (1) kilt tops at the moment... But senior XMTS members who have a friend/relative who fits that description are more than welcome to participate.

    - Sub-note: As there are 3 kilts, I anticipate giving them away to 3 different people. But I think that's pretty clear based on the above, right?

    2. As I'm GIVING these kilts away, I would request that: please, please, please do not re-sell them... On EBay or otherwise. Even if it turns out that you don't want/like it, or it doesn't fit... Please try to re-gift it to someone else who might appreciate it. Failing that, donate it to a Salvation Army or similar charity.

    3. If/when possible, it would be nice if you could cover (or help cover) the cost of shipping... While the kilts themselves are free, I do have to send these things from Japan.

    4. This is not a first come/first serve giveaway. Because not everyone can log onto XMTS at the same time, I want to give as many people as possible a fair chance. But I also have NO idea whether this will generate a little or a lot of interest.... So the deal is this: send me a PM stating which kilt you're interested in. If, after a day or two you are the only one who's requested it... Gratz. If there are others, I will draw a name randomly among the interested parties.

    5. Feel free to participate in this thread, but ONLY those who have actually sent a private message (PM) will be considered.

    6. In keeping with the spirit of the forum, PICTURES of the kilts being worn are fully expected to be posted here (if/when practical).... Or it didn't happen!

Final note: I unfortunately do not have the resources to give away or donate hose, sporrans, kilt pins, belts, or other accessories. As much as I'd LOVE to give some of that away as well, I am not in a position to do so. Although if there IS someone who can, I'd love to hear from you too! Maybe we can collaborate here and help someone put together a more complete outfit.

That's about all I can think of for now... So, yeah. Let me know if anyone wants these.

OUT - FREAKING - STANDING, young man! A large part of why I joined this forum was the friendliness and generosity that I saw. Total class act! A very proper salute has been rendered to you. I hope it turns out well and that these kilts find a loving and deserving home. Please keep us informed!

This is a truly awesome thing you're doing, brother, and it's actions like yours that make me most proud to count myself one of the rabble!

You're a credit to us all.

Here's hoping you find some great new homes for these kilts!

What an excellent idea and a wonderful gesture. I hope this is something that can become a regular promotion of the kilt here on X-Marks some day. What a terrific way to get people kilted and promote kilting.

I'm not interested in the kilts. Alas and alack, I am a bit too "substantial" around the middle to wear them. Maybe I could losee 6 inches...

I just wanted to repeat what everyone else said. Good on ya' for doing a good turn for fellow XMarkers.

    Bravo CDNSushi, Well done indeed.
I don't post often, but I check in occasionally to see what folks are up to. And I really like what you are up to!
I'll keep an eye on this thread, I've got a few "starter kilts" that I would be happy to pass on.
    Bless you,
    Don
