    Kilted evolution

I was looking through some old photos and thought it would be fun to share some of my kilted pics through the years starting from when I was a young lad of just 15 years.

Summer 1993. Returning from summer cadet exchange to the UK. You can't see my kilt here but I'm wearing it!

Here I am in the tweed day jacket my mother made for me. This is circa 1994. Yes, I know: bonnet on in the house. ;) I miss this day sporran. It's far nicer than the one I have now.

High school Prom spring 1995. The Prince Charlie sporran is still in good condition here.

When I performed with my band, I had lent my day sporran to another member so I always wore my evening sporran as I only had the two. It looks odd to my eyes now but it was fun to have us all kilted.
By the time this photo was taken, the evening sporran had lost all six tassels due to live gig wear and tear. Circa 2004.

New Band line up in 2006. Kilt drooping a little too far here. Day sporran disappeared with the departure of the other band member so I'm still in the evening sporran, such as it is. No other band members had a kilt at this point.

Here I am at my brother's wedding in July 2011 wearing the same Prince Charlie Jacket and Waistcoat I wore at my prom in 1995. Not a bad investment.

Kilted at work Robbie Burns Day 2013. In an attempt to save the old seal Prince Charlie sporran which had been losing fur, I converted it into a "semi-dress" by removing the excess fur and adding leather tassels. This sporran met with unenthusiastic reviews here on xmarks as being "neither fish nor fowl". I have a sentimental connection to it, and would still like to breathe new life into it. Finding matching colour seal tassels is pretty much impossible. Perhaps I could contrast with black or something. Stay tuned.

Since becoming more actively involved in Xmarks, I've stepped up my kilt game a bit. I just thought it would be fun to chronicle the oldies somewhere online. You may have seen my current approach in some more recent threads of mine. Maybe you have a similar story to tell. I'd love to see pics of your kilted evolution through the years!

I think one thing my pics show is that good quality highland attire is an investment but it's worth the money because it lasts for decades.

Very cool. Regardless of opinions expressed here, you have a history with your dress, including that sporran. Therefore, you owe no explanations. Carry on, Sir.

Does anyone else have a series of photos of their evolving kilt style through the years?

    Nathan:

Thanks for the stroll. Great to see some of these old(er) photos. Your 1995 prom date--she's a stunner. I liked the evolution of the sporran and the losses of the tassels. So it's not only my sporrans that shed off bits and bobs.
