MacDonald of Glencoe Muted kilt review
After describing my mega-jones waiting for this kilt in another recent thread it finally arrived last night, on the anniversary of the Massacre of Glencoe, unfortunately too late and too wrinkled to wear yesterday (bummer--it had been promised by the 5th). On top of that, the packaging had been torn full thickness---luckily no damage to the kilt but the packaging was made of mulched recycled paper fibers which caused massive lint contamination of the tartan, requiring repeated strokes with a lint remover for about 30 minutes to get cleaned up.
Machine sewn 13oz MacDonald of Glencoe Muted 8yd kilt from House of Edgar mills tartan pleated to sett, ordered custom built from scottishkilts.net at the end of November more than two months ago, a month or so before their prices went up across the board. Nicely finished, well built, a built wrinkled on arrival and the 13 oz tartan definitely does not feel as substantial as my 16oz tanks. Buckles seem a bit lightweight but functional. Fits just a bit snug, but I have put on some winter weight since I measured and ordered it, so should fit great once I drop the 12 pounds of hibernation fat. Colors are vivid and exceptional----definitely better than those of the Modern version from Dalgleish (see first photo below) which are darker and far more bluish and maroonish than red and green. Interesting how the sett size was bigger for the 13oz HoE tartan than the 16oz Dalgleish---I would have assumed the reverse from what I know about tartan manufacture, which certainly isn't much. Came with matching tartan flashes as part of the package.
House of Edgar 13oz MacDonald of Glencoe Muted background with 16oz Dalgleish Modern swatch overlying it on the right side of the photo. The colors in this picture are a bit washed out due to sheen from the camera flash--the real ones are significantly darker (see the other pictures below of the Muted).

Love the tartan. Wish it had arrived a bit sooner so I could have worn it yesterday, but it will be ready to wear in a few weeks when I drop the extra boat anchor.
Overall: Positives: great looking kilt, well made and overall nicely finished, free flashes, good value for what I paid, and a terrific tartan in Muted. Negatives: poor communications, delayed delivery, packaging which tore and really linted up the tartan, marginal quality buckles.

Congratulations on the new kilt, I love the colours of it, but you're right it does need a good pressing, nonetheless congratulations.

Pressing, a kilt pin (I forgot---duh), and a model in somewhat better condition than I to show it off.
Thanks.

FM,
Press yes.
Kilt pin maybe
Better model NO!
There is none better to model a kilt than the person it was constructed to fit.
Good colours and a great look.
Congratulations.
