A military Hunting Stewart kilt joins my collection
I got this old military kilt from eBay a while ago with the intention of wearing it in the winter. My old What Price Glory Gordon Highlander kilt was never returned to me from my ex-wife. At any rate I got this for a song and it came with kilt extenders that I don’t need. With the recent weight loss it is one of the kilts that actually fits without adjustments. I am trying it today for the first time with a pair of Argyll hose that Kilted Cole sent up as they did not fit him just to see if these work with the Hunting Stewart tartan. I think this kilt will see lots of wear in the colder months. The label inside is faded to the point where I can not read it so idea of the provenance of the garment.

Needless to say, very smart as always. Nice to see you without tie, you just look a little more relaxed and "natural" (not sure if that the right word to use)
Personally I like wearing a tie, but at 5 foot seven, 46 inch chest and short neck, shirts are a pain. I can get them to fit but I just feel they ride too high on my neck, hence making it look like my head is attached to my shoulders, therefore I wear them rarely which is a shame as I have quite a few nice silk ones.

I also like wearing a tie, at 5'6" with a 40" chest and a 16" neck I think I'm well proportioned for it. Truth be told I would have put on a tie but was simply needing to walk to the dog and could not readily put my hand to one so went without. I have some lovely ties but tend to wear the same ones with the kilt, mainly the ABF tie gets lots of rotation when kilted.

Great find with that kilt McMurdo!
I'm 5'-7" too, with 40" chest and 16" neck. I have a military kilt, but that high rise on it really seems to make my proportions all wrong. The only time I'll wear it is when I can wear a waistcoat and/or jacket over it like you have done there. Which, in Texas, is only about 2-3 months out of the year. So that kilt spends a lot of time in the closet.
Nomad, I'm the same with with shirts. I guess I have a short neck or something, because standard shirt collars always feel like they're halfway up the back of my head (and well above my hairline). I'm to the point now where I pass on a lot of otherwise great shirts, simply because the collars are too tall. I hate feeling like I'm wearing a neck brace.
And on the subject of shirts, another thing I find annoying is that so many of them have a front pocket that's way too low. It should be up on the chest, not halfway down my belly. Some of my shirt pockets are barely above my kilt. And when I wear a high-rise military kilt, it actually covers part of the pocket.

Actually, it was a very long time ago, and I didn't own the kilt; it was on loan from Her Majesty.

That's a fantastic kilt! Nothing like old military kilts. Time was, back in the 1970s, I could wear them! (My youthful 29" waist is long gone!)
A Hunting Stewart kilt has long been on my bucket list. Kudos to you for getting one. (I have Stewart ancestry on one side.)
Smart as always!

Thanks Richard yes I am quite pleased with it, my Mom is a Stewart, now on the lookout for the even more rare Royal Stewart in military weight. I'm sure if I wait long enough I'll find one. Of course I do not have Black Watch in the collection as yet and they are easier to find.
