This is the look I'm shooting for...traditional kilt worn in a more modern fashion.

Re: The New Traditionalists (Traditional kilts, Modern looks)
This is a really good idea for a photo thread Jamie.
If I understand your meaning, you propose to define "New Traditionalists" something like this.
"If you were dressed "New Traditionalist" and standing in a group of "Full Traditionalists", most people would not be able to tell the difference at first glance or would know that you were different but would not be sure what the difference was right away. "
So, in this vein I give you one of the photos from my profile, which most of you have seen, but perhaps not full size.

So, what makes this outfit "New Traditionalist"?
The jacket is not an Argyle. It is a Kilt Kut Sport Coat. No fancy sleeve cuffs, no epaulettes, no fancy buttons, three button front.
A standard, solid color shirt out of my closet, without a tie.
The belt is not a standard Dirk Belt. It is as wide as a Dirk Belt but has a more regular buckle.
The Sporran is a modern Freelander. It is worn on a braided strap by R-Kilts.
A Pacific Coast First Nations Silver kilt pin.
No Hose Flashes.
And loafers. OK they have tassels. These I call my "Yuppie shoes". I tell people that the tassles always point the direction to the nearest Starbucks.
OH, and the Kilt, while made from 13oz Scottish Wool, is worn at Mid-Rise. Sitting just on top of my hip bones. There is a real waistband and six functional beltloops. And there are pockets for gosh sakes.

I wear the kilt because: Swish + Swagger = Swoon.

While it's really for Jamie to answer, that description certainly works for me. I think the photo you posted is very much in the spirit of what he's talking about.
And also looks damn fine, if I may say so.

I'm killed in the war or hung during peace."
