Niles' new Bonnie Heather Greene kilt.
Greetings fellow X Marks rabble. Well, my wife's and my new kilts arrived yesterday from Bonnie Heather Greene. Anxiously awaited, they are beautiful and both fit perfectly.
First I want to say that, Bonnie's work is superb. Both kilts are absolutely perfect; the pinnacle of the kilt makers craft. Not only is Bonnie talented, she is about the nicest person you would ever want to meet. I really appreciated working with her and especially, getting to know her better.
Here is Bonnie and myself with my unfinished kilt at the Graeme Park Celtic Heritage Festival (near Philadelphia) in July.

During the process, she periodically updated me with pictures and a posting on Facebook.

More to come,
Nile
Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle. The specifications for my kilt are: Fraser of Lovat Modern, 8 yards of Locharron 16oz Strome, pleated to set. The specifications for Susan's kilt are: Stewart Dress Modern, 5 yards of Locharron 13oz Braeriach, pleated to set.
Bonnies tag:

OK, here they are out of the box; backs first!

... and the fronts!

Though we quickly tried them on to check the fit (perfect) Susan will take the basting stitches out tonight and we will dress properly in them for some pictures.
More coming soon,
Nile

Ok, here are pictures of the first time I've put my new kilt on (other than having checked the fit). My wife, Susan, kindly took a couple of shots by the stairs. When she takes the basting stitches out of her's, I'll take a couple of shots of her modeling her new kilt as well.

Just before we took these pictures, the dog needed me to take her out so, I had a chance to take a stroll in this wonderful garment. As heavy as it is, it's remarkably comfortable and close fitting, unlike the cheap poly kilt I have that has a 'flingie' open feel. This is the first time I've ever had a full, 8 yard, 16oz wool kilt on!!! i've enjoyed wearing kilts ever since I first started with my AmeriKilt utility kilt but this wool kilt has taken' the experience to new heights.
And... did I say that I love this tartan. My last name is Simpson and we are of Scottish decent (I have numerous Scottish ancestors) and a sept of the Fraser (of Lovat) Clan and hence my choice of the Fraser of Lovat Modern tartan.
Next, I'll try dressing it up with some of the things that I have (jacket, waistcoat, etc.) to see how that goes!!?? Again, more pics coming.
Thanks,
Nile

Can't tell you how good that looks on you! I suppose I could, but it might seem creepy.
Wonderful tartan, and congratulations on your first tank--it really is an elevated experience. Bonnie Heather is definitely on the list of kiltmakers I'd ask to cover my bum.
