    Trew story

Yes its trew (insert standup show drumroll), I'm finally getting a pair of bespoke high-waisted tartan trews in Lochcarrons 16 oz Sinclair Hunting Modern tartan.
I ordered them from Scotweb about a month ago and today I got the message that they were on their way from Edinburgh. I've just caught the diagnosis know as "the jones" which I guess many of you are already familiar with and thought "whoa! thats great news because I can't hardly wait for them to arrive"

The trews will be worn together with a dinner jacket and waistcoat for formal/evening wear and my regular length tweed blazer and waistcoat for less formal/ daytime wear. I've also planned to wear them with my Norwegian handknitted jumpers in various patterns and colors for that more casual, but still respectfull Scottish/Norwegian hybrid look. When it comes to footwear I've understood and seen that the regular brouges and dr martens boots is de rigeur for most formal and casual wear.

I already have a flat cap and a trillby, but are bonnets with clan badges worn with trews or is it just not done?

Well done! Excellent choice. Yes, you will see Highland bonnets worn with trews, but not too often, since many gents prefer to wear their trews with their black tie attire (much of which takes place indoors, obviously). I think wearing them with a regular length tweed jacket, tan or brown brogues, tie, and perhaps a self-coloured waistcoat of moleskin or doeskin looks especially smart. See below. However, keep in mind that high waisted (fishtail) trews are a trimmer fit than their more casual and relaxed tartan trouser counterpart, which usually sit further down your waist where you typically wear Saxon trousers.

Oh, and Chelsea style boots are typically worn with trews for black tie affairs. They are usually seen in black leather with a high polish for formal wear.

Kyle, that link is for tartan trousers. As you know, there's a world of difference between tartan trousers and a well made pair of fishtail trews!

I like those without the diceing, thanks for adding another alternative.

    Cheers,
Thanks for the advice, I already have a pair of docs, but I see the practicality of the chelsea boots. I've to say that those moleskin waistcoats looked very classy and I really liked that house of bruar picture where their model wore loafers. You just reminded me that I have to get a new pair of loafers for summer.

Tell me about it, I found lots of ghastly looking examples of tartan trousers described as trews on various websites around the web, but the same can also be said about kilts. It's sad, but trew.

Right! I do know the difference between the two, as previosuly stated. I should have implied with that link that all I was doing was sharing an, albeit somewhat casual, "look" in which the OP could get possible ideas from.

I got the message the first time around "tartan trews/trousers work with loafers and a jumper for a more casual "look". Still I havent' found any pictures of guys wearing their trews with Fair Isle/Scandinavian knitted jumpers neither here or anywhere else, but that is also a "look" that can work as well (at least in the highland and islands or up here in the barbaric north).

I think your new trews will look wonderful with Fair Isle/Scandinavian knitted jumpers! I think you may be on to a new trend there, mate.
