    kilts at Hot Topic

Greetings after a long absence! Seamus was born Thanksgiving weekend and is very healthy. He'll be kilted by Xmas.
I checked the forum by search and didn't find this as a thread...
So, awhile back I was in the local Hot Topic browsing for T's & stickers and saw this terrible red plaid on a hanger. I examined it, thinking "punk" trousers. Alas, no. It was a badly-made kilt with sagging pockets, rings, straps & snaps. Aside from being a personal affront to me as a punk & kilt-wearer, the sheer gall of the company to market a shoddy product just ticks me off. It was bad enough when they started carrying fake New Rocks, but...
I do not believe that they are using a registered tartan, and it is clearly intended as "alternative style" clothing. I'll try to find a pic on their site and hopefully link it on this thread.

    Tripp Kilts

They're Poly-Rayon and look box pleated. $48-52. Red Plaid, Black, & Green Plaid.

They are also listed under their St Pat's special section.

You sound as if you've looked at them too. What is your opinion? Is it good to have kilts at mainstream stores, or..?

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that 65 poly/35 rayon blend essentially the PV that seems to be our second fabric of choice for a kilt?

It looks like an ugly pillow case with the end opened up. I sure wouldn't call it a kilt though...ugly skirt maybe. But hey, who am I to judge?

Hot Topic may have a poor excuse for a kilt, but we still like to visit from time to time. They carry a wide variety of lovely fashion tartans, like so:

Panache had just recently purchased his purple, fashion tartan kilt at the Loch Lomond Highland Games when we saw this dress-it almost matched, so I had to buy it! See, here's his kilt (not Hot Topic though):

    Be well,

I've not seen them in person, but I have seen the pictures. I do think they are fugly, and I wouldn't wear one, but my only real gripes are the zipper and the belt loops.

They aren't my style, but I am still happy to see a kilt in a mall, rather than just online or in specialty shops. It's a step in the right direction. Now if they can just get an inexpensive kilt that isn't an eyesore into a store I where I might actually shop. Then we'll be in business.
