making a pair of Ghillie Brogues
I'm sure I am not the first to think about converting a pair of shoes into ghillie brogues. Anyone done this succesfully?

Here's a link to a company in New Zealand that does just that. http://www.kilts.co.nz/mitbrogs.htm

Aren't they clever! We have at least one shoemaker on this forum, wonder if there's enough of a market in the U.S. to make it worth his while. . .

very clever of them - I've read back over thirty pages of the DIY link and nobody has done it. There's only one picture of those Roman Leigion marching shoe's. Thedy are pretty neat but a little too casual.

Wow, that's pretty neat, I wouldn't have thought of that!

yea, Captain Karrot did a very good job on a pair of shoes. They looked very good and was hard to tell the different unless you got really close to them.

It would seem to me that for the time expended, to say nothing of the potentially dreadful outcome, you might be ahead to toss a dollar or two into the cookie jar from time to time until you have saved up enough to buy a proper pair of ghillie brogues...

...... right, you're probably dorrrect considering the cost of the shoes and postage both way's to NZ I doubt I'd save much. I might as well just buy new - or perhaps find a pair of X-hire somewhere.

Ex-hire is one way to go, you could also check out ebay. Making them from another pair from a normal pair of Oxfords would not be an option for me as I do not have the talent to make them look good at all. Do a Google Search, or perhaps go to a local tartan shop if there is one around to see about ex-hire stuff
