Making a traditional box pleated kilt

Matt and I have promised for a couple of years now to write instructions for making a traditional 4-yard box pleated kilt. We've finally done it!

The instructions are too long and have too many illustrations to post as a tutorial here on XMarks, but we're making the instructions available as a free pdf download. You can download the files from the Scottish Tartans Museum site:

    Scottish Tartans Museum: http://www.scottishtartans.org/boxpleat.html

You'll find both a high resolution (about 32 Mb) download and a low resolution (about 5 Mb) download. You'll need Acrobat Reader to view the file - the pdf does not open accurately in Foxit.

We'd be delighted to have reviews and suggestions for changes. Just send Barb T. a PM.

**Just a quick note - many of you have been interested in the "no buttonhole" technique of putting the underapron strap on the inside of a kilt. Instructions for doing this are well described in the supplement and can be used on any kind of kilt.

***Please note that these instructions are supplementary to the book The Art of Kiltmaking. For instructions that are the same for box pleated and knife pleated kilts, we refer to instructions in The Art of Kiltmaking. The pdf works equally well with the first and second printings. If you do not have a copy, you can order one at http://www.celticdragonpress.com

    Update:
You can now download this from the Scottish Tartans Museum page, now.

Same file, but you don't have to deal with the annoying savefile.com adverts (which, we all know, is the price you pay for free hosting services). :-)
