    REALLY OBSCURE: Tintin Tartan

As a long time fan (some in my family say fanatic) of Tintin comics, I just realized that perhaps it's possible to get a kilt made to copy Tintin's from his book "the black island."

Anyone know which tartan Herge was trying to use, or perhaps a close facsimile thereof? Any suggestions etc. would be welcome!

    Here's some pictures for reference:

There's even a video game showing Tintin running around in his kilt (goto about 5:10 in the youtube video to see it!)

With the colors that he's wearing it actually reminded me of the Ancient MacPhie tartan.

I looked around to find out for sure, but I couldn't find anything definitive.

    Hey that's fantastic !
Î'm reading "L'Ile Noire" to my 5 year old Louise every evening !
It gets to show her her dad isn't the only kilted super hero !

"L'Ile Noire" is actually how my father got me to like wearing a kilt in the first place ! (...and starting to think how it would be funny to see double like Milou when he tasted the Loch Lomond !)

Yes ! L'Ile noire ! I really love this album. And maybe my first contact with scot culture (I was 7 yrs old when I read the story). There is a legend. The old and ruined castle in the story came from Brittany (bay of Morlay near Plouézoc'h). But others say the famous castle on the island came from Le Dramont and l'île d'or (Golden Island) near Saint Raphaël in the south of France.
And if that was a real island in Scotland ?

Looks like a simplification of the Royal Stewart tartan.

I think we can be a little more imaginative than that. Perhaps Matt could make up a Herge tartan and register it. I bet there would be more than one buyer!

Not exactly right - but not a bad match for color!
