Point of order! As all true Texans know, the "h" in "Humble" is silent. Otherwise, good show, Gunny.

Great clip. While the comment that the last time the kilt was worn in battle is strictly true, the British Army actually did not withdraw the kilt in 1939, except for ceremonial use. See: http://archive.scotsman.com/article..../12/15/Ar00704

Just wish the guns had eaten the haggis! But you'll have to admit he looked pretty good in that kilt.

I did notice that the piper was wearing a Gordon kilt with a Black Watch badge and hackle on a bonnet from some other regiment.
The bonnet has Argyll pattern dicing on it.

In the clip, btw, there is a photo of a Scottish officer walking with an American officer -- I believe the former is General James Oliver of the 15th Scottish Division and the 7th Black Watch.

And technically, the last time the kilt was worn in combat was at Dunkirk by the Camerons.

    Cheers,

    Todd

Thanks for the link. That was a fascinating article, Brian, especially the part about soldiers crossing flooded trenches with kilts up over their shoulders

    Best regards,

At least more people are becoming more familiar with Kilts! After wearing mine to work on many occasion, I was impressed with the number of African Americans that said: "I like you KILT!"

You're darn tootin'. It is a Leatherneck tartan. On my screen, it was so dark that all I could readily tell was that it had yellow stripes, so I guessed Gordon when I saw the rest of the get-up. ON closer inspection, I agree that it must be a Leatherneck. (Designed by my acquaintance and fellow Marine, Bob Hall, but that's another tale for another day.)

And Todd's right: the glengarry was definitely Argyll and Sutherland since they were the only ones to wear red and white, not red and black. (At least I think I'm right there; someone is bound to chime in if I missed something.) But the guy is definitely wearing a Black Watch cap badge and hackle.

And the sporran is probably a Gordon since it's white with black tassels. But I'm not about to make a blanket statement on that one. If there are additional black tassels below the ones whose tops are visible, the it could be Black Watch.

Reckon we took that sucker apart enough? Feel like I've been beating a dead horse and waiting on him to plow.

I live in a mixed neighborhood. I was at the corner gas station and a black guy was filling up next to me....

    BBD: Dat a kilt?

    Me: Yessir it is.

    BBD: Dat be confident!

    I smiled.

BBD = Big Black Dude.. He was basket ball player size.

I did this in dialect because that is the way it was spoken.... My yessir is similar to the Carolina's pattern of speech

It's always a good feeling to get a compliment from an unexpected direction.
