    A few people call me "Mac", and it's just a combination of that with the little round guy that munches in the video game, Pacman.

    My name CactusJack is after one of the wresteling characters of Mick Foley.
    I have followed Mick's career for many years and Jack was always my favorites, I did meet him several years ago when he was here doing a book signing..

    A fractious person is bad enough, but to be way too fractious requires many years of persistent practice.

    fractious: tending to be troublesome, quarrelsome, irritable, refractory.

    refractory: resisting control or authority, stubborn, resistant to treatment or cure, unresponsive to stimulus (threats or rewards).

    These are the defining characteristics of curmudgeonhood, my ultimate goal.

    Apparently, based on previous definitions, I should be Big Tom . . . just sounds weird to me . . .

    Anyhoo, I have been Escher or Escherblacksmith since about 1989, back on the gopher systems (umn.edu), pre-pretty internet.

    I have been a big fan of mc escher's work and have found that my blacksmithing seems to have generated far more objects that just don't look like they should exist in this set of dimensions . . . unfortunately not by intent. ;-)}

    And there you are . . .

    oh, and to the sci-fi debate . . . as long as someone can work out the math between Federation shields and Empire's Blaster Cannon, I guess you can do a comparison . . .

    Call me an old-book nerd. I'll take the Skylark of Valeron anytime . . . try to stop a 6th order projector . . . I dare you. Or, better yet, how about a Sunbeam from the Lensmen . . .

    Modern Sci-Fi movies think too small . . . ;-)}

    My Name

    Forgot to answer the Name question so here it goes. First off, my real name is Kris, and it has nothing to do with Ayin McFye.

    15 Years ago I was "reborn" into the religion i am now (that's all I'm going to say about religion so don't ask) and I had to choose a name. I was flipping through a book, and I saw Ayin (Pronounced Eh-Yen I believe) The book had a bunch of tarot card stuff in it and Ayin was listed next to the "Tower" card in the tarot deck, so I just assumed that it was Latin for Tower. I liked it, so I went with it.

    9 Years ago I joined the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronisms) and I had to choose a persona name within the Society. I went ahead and went with Ayin but I still had to choose a last name. My best friend in the SCA had a last name of McFye, and I thought it'd be cool to act like we're brothers. It turns out though that you actually have to register your name within the SCA and to do so you have to do research on it. So I decided i'd finally do some research on Ayin. OMG did I find a lot of information on Ayin. For a brief bit of info check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayin but to sum up, it's a letter in various alphabets, and has MANY meanings.

    Also McFye is just a variant off of MacFie. For more info on that see... It's pretty cool. http://www.hss.caltech.edu/~mcafee/B...e/history.html

    There is a bit more to it, but i think that about sums up the most important parts.

    Cheers!

    Well, my first name is Kevin, so named because my grandmother wanted to name my dad Kevin, but grandpa didn't, so my dad became Mark, with Kevin for his middle name. Coemgen is the Gaelic from which the name Kevin is derived.

    My avatar is from an icon of Saint Kevin of Glendalough, who was, according to legend, the first person given the name.
