New Kilt Belt and Sporran Strap Combo From Centaur Design

In my never ending quest to acquire better accessories I searched long and hard to find something that was a bit different from the norm. Also being a GOS (Gentleman of Substance) it is even more difficult to find something that I actually like. Therefore I was delighted to find an artisan leatherworker in Scotland called Centaur Design who do a rather nice line in Celtic accessories. I think they have been mentioned on here before but I had never seen any pictures of anyone who had actually bought something from them. So with some trepidation I rang them to enquire if they could make me a 3" Kilt belt with the design from one of their other belts. It is a celtic zoomorphic design and hand dyed in london tan / chestnut red. Other colours are available but I liked the way the colour scheme made the design stand out. This was a made to order belt and I have to say that I am highly delighted with it. The colours are gorgeous and the quality is excellent. Nice thick leather for the kilt belt but still supple. Solid brass D buckle and all properly rivetted so will be very strong. Very helpful when it will have to hold back my gut.

The Sporran Straps are a thinner leather but still very good quality. The only thing I would say is that I would have preferred a swivel fitting at the clip. However the brass is super smooth so should not chafe the kilt in use.

I am really pleased with this as not having seen any reviews it was a bit of a gamble but one that has paid off.

I think that for us GOS the 3" wide belt gives a better sense of proportionality.

    Anyway some pics -

First off new belt and strap in situ -

Front view showing detail of design and D buckle

    Side panel showing full design

reverse of belt showing rivets and reverse of keepers again rivetted

    Belt and sporran strap fittings

And finally clip and buckle of sporran straps showing well rivetted fittings.

This belt combo will I am sure last many years and their website is well worth a look if you fancy something a bit different.

Absolutely stunning! The colors are rich and lustrous, and as opositive said, it's like wearable art. I'm going to have to check their stuff out now; thanks for the review of their service and pics!

    Cheers,

Gee, and I was just shopping for inexpensive 2" wide belts to step up my look. That is VERY impressive stuff, and a great choice of design and color on your part. I like it!

    Cheers!

Thank you all for your very pleasing comments I am glad you like it. To show a bit more context here is a picture of the belt side by side with a standard size 2 1/4 inch luxury brown leather kilt belt. You can see its not for the faint hearted, However they do standard width kilt belts with a selection of designs including the design I chose. For your info the belt only cost £15 more than the standard brown belt shown below, which for a hand made, hand dyed top quality leather is somewhat of a bargain.

side by side with luxury 2 1/4 " wide brown leather kilt belt.

Thanks for posting this close up picture. I really love that design, I have the same one on one of the rings I wear. I even tell the wife I am going to get it for a tat on my shoulder. LOL! I am tat free. Chicken I guess.
