Brown hose
I picked up these hose at the Gatlinburg Games and thought they were nice. I had not seen any in brown before. These will go well with weathered/ancient tartans, or even for a more casual look with brown shoes, sporran, and belt.

Yes, they will.
Do you have contact information for the vendor?

Caradoc,
I got them from The Scotland Yard, a vendor in Kentucky, who was at the Gatlinburg Games. Their website is here. Unfortunately, I just checked their site and they do not show the brown. Fortunately, these hose are the standard wool hose from Gaelic Themes that almost everybody stocks. I know that Matt at the Scottish Tartans Museum stocks these as well. He can probably get them, or you can call Scotland Yard and ask if they have them.

For those who haven't discovered this yet...brown goes very well with the Ireland's National tartan that USAK sells. I have a brown shirt I wear with mine casually. Now must find brown hose.

Actually, oddly enough I didn't even know Gaelic Themes made brown hose as they are not listed on their web site. I asked Matt at Scotland Yard how he got them, and he told me that he saw them being offered by *another* vendor at a different festival and called GT to see if they were available. They are, and now he stocks them. So I'm going to try to get some from GT next time I do a hose order. Don't have any now, though. Call up Scotland Yard or go to www.scotyard.com. Tell Matt that "the other Matt" wants a referral fee. :-)

Don't forget that wool and wool blend hose in white or off-white will take RIT dyes very well. The dyes come in loads of colors and you can adjust the dye intensity to match any shade you wish. Start with a "thin" solution (less concentrated than the box recommends) and leave the item in the bath for less time than recommended. Rinse and dry. If the color is not deep enough, add more dye and/or leave it in the bath longer. It may take several tries but you'll eventually "sneak up" on the right color. You can also mix dye colors to create just the right solution. Dye a white polo or tee shirt in the same bath and you've got an instant matching set.

As another option, Freedom Kilts sells their "Heritage" kilt hose in brown. I like these kilt hose because they have some mass to them and wear very much like the genuine hand knit type.

All of my hose are from Gaelic Themes and have been wearing well. I got the brown as well KCW but mine seem more chocolate than those and heavier. I spoke to my supplier (all things tartan) and they reckoned all the darker tones- brown, charcoal, lovat blue/green etc.where of a heavier make than the lighter ones-stone,oatmeal etc. At least that's the case with their stock and what I've bought. I prefer the heavier hose anyway.
The brown's a good option btw. My main kilt is a green base so it's perfect.

Starbkjrus, that is a good idea. I never thought about brown with that tartan, but it would go well with the green and yellow.
Oz, these are definitely chocolate. Check out the pics on the "Look what I bought" thread. This pic is a bit washed out because of the flash.

Now that is an excellent idea! Takes all the guesswork out of matching similar, but not exact, color shirts and hose.
