Early spring time in Edinburgh

Ann and I arrived back from our week in Edinburgh around lunchtime today. Lots of posts on x-marks for me to catch up on, but meantime here are a few photos to share the delights of Edinburgh.

Having made our way via the Mound and the top end of the Royal Mile to the Castle Esplanade we can see that the rock face on the south of the castle is equally forbidding.

The trip was partly on business and partly for leisure. Here I am on the Castle esplanade in my working clothes. Black wool 8 yard 16 oz. kilt.

Late in the afternoon, with the sun in the west behind the castle it looks very forbidding as the last visitors of the day leave.

The Castle esplanade provides a fine vantage point for a northward view over Princes Street and beyond to the Firth of Forth and the Fife Coast.

Wives expect to be taken to the shops, where the view from the conservatory cafe atop the John Lewis store in the St. James Centre is also photogenic.

From the other side of the conservatory cafe we can look across at Calton Hill.

Edinburgh Zoo is terraced all the way up the south face of Corstorphine Hill in the western suburbs of Edinburgh. No visit to the zoo is complete without climbing to the hill top viewpoint where we look back towards the city centre. The prominent hill in the background is Arthur's Seat, within Holyrood Park.
