another Frugal Corner kilt review
Ok, a couple weeks ago, I'm not sure the exact date, I ordered a Clergy/ Clark kilt from Frugal Corner. I couldn't pass up the price. At the time I purchased the kilt, everyone still had a lot of questions about their products. First off, the kilt I ordered was lost in the mail. After some time passed, I emailed Mark and asked if or when my kilt was shipped. I guess at the time, it was right around when the postal service upped postage and paypal was acting a bit screwy. Anyways to make a long story short, the Marks were really cool, great customer service, they sent out a second kilt right away. Which I got today.
I opened the box, and on top was the kilt. I was surprised to find however when I lifted the kilt out of the box, underneath was a white fur dress sporran, two kilt pins, and a sporran strap. What a nice surprise!

Now, I only bought a kilt. When I made my order Mark said they would throw in a kilt pin. So the sporran, the strap and the second kilt pin was totally on them, because the postal service lost my package. Something that wasn't even their fault. Nice guys huh! OK, so heres the kilt pins...

The kilt pins are OK. They aren't great or anything, but they are functional, and look OK. They aren't expensive high class kilt pins, but to wear out and about they're fine. And like I said, they were free. I'm sure I'll wear them both quite often.
Next we have the sporran and the sporran strap. The sporran is pretty decent. Its not a $300 fancy fur dress sporran. But it is nice. I believe the one they sent me retails for like $62 on their web site. Its rabbit fur I believe, it looks to be constructed pretty well. Pretty solid. Its a lot nicer than some of the "cheap" sporrans I've seen out there. Now the strap... I'm impressed with the strap. Its made the leather on the strap is quite thick and robust. A lot more so than my other sporran strap in fact. A lot nicer than my other strap. So I was pretty impressed with that. I'm sure I'll be switching it between sporrans. Heres a couple pics...

Now for the kilt! I'm not holding back here, I'll give the good and the bad, though honostly there doesnt seem to be much bad. The kilt is in the 16oz Clergy/ Clark tartan they have. Its nice looking. Its heavy.
Theres been a bit of talk in here about the weight of their kilts. So heres how its sizes up weight wise. Its supposed to be 16 oz., however it isnt quite as heavy as my Stillwater Heavy Weight Wool Blackwatch which is also said to be 16 oz. That being said, its not much lighter. The kilt is no light weight. If feels robust wearing it, which means a lot to me. It feels good on. It feels like you're wearing a decent kilt.
The tartan is nice, the weave looks good over all. The colors are nice and the fabric itself seems pretty thick and well constructed. Its pretty nice stuff all and all. It feels ok to the touch. Im guessing its acrylic. I dont have a Stillwater standard to compare it to so I cant tell you what it looks like next to one of those. The fabric seems a little "fuzzy" I guess is the word. Not as fuzzy a say a flannel fabric or a Sport kilt, but yet not as tightly woven as say a PV or wool of course. Id say say its not quite as nice a PV yet its a whole lot nicer that the stuff SK uses. Ive been wearing it for a couple hours now and it seems that it doesnt swish quite as nice as wool or pv and it seems to wrinkle a little easier. But over all it seems nices.

As for the construction of the kilt. Over all its pretty darn good. It feels nice and robust. The seems look good. The fringe is nice, the seem holding it on is a little visible. But not to bad since the kilt is mostly dark in color. There are 3 leather straps. They aren't real stout, but they're OK the. They could always be replaced later down the road if it came down to it. The buckles aren't the best either, but they'll get the job done. The pleats are about 3/4 of an inch wide by 3 1/2 deep. There are 30 pleats total on my kilt. Its pleated to the set, however its not perfect, It does run off a bit. The pattern itself is pretty busy though so its not to obvious, and I guess that this tartan may not be as easy to pleat as others.

Over all, for the price you aren't going to beat this kilt. Its sturdy, the fabrics nice, its heavy, and it basically looks good. Is it a a $600 wool tank? No, and Frugal Corner doesn't claim that it is. Could you wear this kilt to a highly formal event? A wedding? I personally wouldn't, though it may pass if you weren't with a bunch of kilt connoisseurs. Could you wear it out for a night on the town? Definitely. Could you wear it out to a nice restaurant? Yes, I would and surely will in the future. This is a great kilt for casual wear, and could even work for something pretty dressy. Frugal Corner gets two thumbs up. Great deal. Nice products. Outstanding customer service. After all, I got a lot more than I bargained for. Would I buy another kilt from them? Yes. Yes I would.
Lastly, heres a few pics of the kilt an the sporran on. I like it. I really need to get a nice Tab shirt to go with it though. I guess I better check ebay. What do you think?

Thank you for the great review. The kilt looks like a good deal considering the low price.
I noticed the right side of the top apron is tapered. I wonder if the left side could be repressed to create a fully tapered apron? Several X-Markers have done this on their SWK kilts.

That was certainly a nice review. I'm done with acrylic kilts, but I must say it looks very nice.
