I do believe that I see some blue jeans in those pictures, as well. i even see running shorts and a nylon singlet.

I'm not sure how we segued from Kyle's wonderful photos of the Aboyne Games (as an aside, Aboyne is not a 'Highland' town) to white hose, but as Tobus, I don't recall anyone stating a 'Highland rule' against wearing white hose. Personal preferences, for certain, but what has been said again and again and again, is that there are no rules for dress in the Highlands. The Marquis' choice in waistcoat and another's choice in hose is theirs and no curmudgeon either side of the Highland line (or the pond) can take that away from them. It is not 'traditional', however, in the Highlands to wear white hose; apparently white hose are acceptable custom in Aberdeenshire. Why does this flaky subject keep raising it head, even in the nicest of places?

Because A.) I came across yet another "you'd look better if you didn't wear white hose" post elsewhere in the forum and B.) I'm a cranky, dogged SOB.

But enough of this. I normally stay out of the Traditional Kilt Forum, and now I've said my once-every-six-months piece.

Look at all of the colour!!!

Thanks for the superb photos, Sandy! What fine examples of Highland day attire at one of the best Highland gatherings I have ever been to (besides my own clan's gathering in Badenoch, of course!). I do agree, location plays a vital role in one's Highland dress. In regards to your fine set of photos, I always love seeing the use of cromachs and blanket (day) plaids...true Highlanders in true form!

    Cheers,

Indeed, Kyle, look at all the colour!
I especially like the picture near the end of the two drummers leading a party of men in mostly red kilts. One is also wearing a waistcoat in the same tartan as his kilt.
The drummers’ kilts are a fine contrast in (mostly) purple.
Many thanks, Kyle and Sandy, for posting these pictures.
    Regards,
    Mike

That is a good look. I'll have to show it to my wife. That would be nice for our morning or evening walks.

We don't get many days over 80. Sweaters are worn through June.

That would be the Duchess of Argyll and a very 21C Highland lady look. For other ideas to pass on for Christmas, look to House of Bruar and Johnsons of Elgin (for example).

Actually, I believe it is Charlie MacDougall's young wife,Lise, a very charming and pretty lady...and I believe the Games Steward of the Argyllshire Gathering.
