Beautiful Estes Park - been there many times, and I've also summited Longs Peak, back when I was 14!

Thanks Alan and Greg, what you have both said confirms the fairly rough impression that I have about Highland Games outwith the UK. It seems to me that apart from castles(non bouncy ones) the main differences are the more than one day thing (on occasion), trade stands aplenty, assorted Clan tents and sheer numbers of people.

Clan tents would be nice - didn't see any at Blackford or Blair Atholl. Just the usual agricultural-show run of burger and hot dog vans, doughnut vans, ice-cream vans, handmade jewellery stalls, cake-and-jam-and-chutney stalls, leatherworkers, stickmakers, birds of prey and the National Trust! Oh, and the beer tent, which irritatingly I didn't manage to get to because the Open Heavies started just after lunchtime and finished as the whole place was being packed up! Eesh. Gotta get my timing right!
Found a snap or two from Blackford - mysteriously, the Darling Daughter seems to have only taken pics of me throwing the hammer, at either event. Shot, WFD, WOB - nowt! But some very nice landscapes of the surrounding area. Oh well.

The distractingly gorgeous vista from the Blackford Games field.

Me, apparently discussing the finer points of Ballroom Hold with David McLeod.

Me, looking normal and tired.

Me, looking... less normal.

Me, apparently being hotly pursued down the field by Gordon the marshal and Duncan Shand, the judge!

...and me, once again, attempting to chuck a hammer that's twice as heavy as it should be.
And finally, for all those of you who complain there aren't enough pictures of hot women on these pages:

Trust me, that is one VERY hot woman! It was a good thing the Heavies were sponsored by Highland Spring bottled water company, who sent a supply of their products out to the field for us to drink.

Excellent pics.
The Blackford Games, with about four tents and a couple of hundred people in the background looks about typical size for a Scottish Games.
