PICS: St. Andrew's @ The Caledonia (Toronto, 2013)
We had a lovely night celebrating Saint Andrew's day down at my favourite Scottish pub in Toronto: The Caledonian. Thanks to Nathan for organizing a table of Xmarkers, Clan Donald of Southern Ontario, and friends. There were a bunch of other guys in kilts there, but the place was packed and I didn't meet or get pics of everyone.
Apologies in advance for the photo quality from a smartphone in low-light conditions... I did what I could to fix them up, but the results are mixed. My lass and a few bifurcated friends were there too, but the group shots really didn't turn out.
The entertainment was excellent:
Can anyone identify the type of small pipes in the pic below?
The address to the haggis and a fine example of that "king of the puddin' race."
Xmarkers from left to right: KeithB, Lloyd? (I didn't catch his screen name), Nathan, and myself. Nathan and Keith's patterned jackets are quite smashing, eh?:
Clan Donald in the house:
All the kilties:
Here's my outfit in better light, in case anyone wanted some detail. The tartan is Maple Leaf and you can just see the knot of my CUHK repp tie. I'm pleased with the improved fit of my recently-altered, vintage, Harris Tweed kilt jacket. I'm wearing a subtle tattersall, but that doesn't show up in the pic. Overall, I was going for less-is-more, but still traditional. How'd I do?

I think you did very well as always, Colin. Your Harris Tweed kilt jacket certainly has a very nice hand to it.
Between us, we had the gambit, less is more, mid range, and more is more. As well as three types of cuff, Braemar, Argyll and Crail!

They were only small pipes and were pretty mellow. He certainly would have been drown out had he not used amplification.

well there you go. Now I really regret not being able to be a part of it all. IT looks like it was a great event; and you all looked smashing. Perhaps next year.
