its really funny, because it seems that many of u guys have made more or less bad experiences but nevertheless most of u are still defending scottishkilts. and so do i although i ve got a few shosking months and i really thought my kilt was lost. my story:

ordered kilt in june 05, got em only 3 weeks later, but wrong size, far to big. sent it back, got response from david they will get it resewn and from that moment i did not get any contact until the end of april 06. i wrote many emails, wrote them even letters and started getting familiar with having lost 200 pounds. so i decided as my last try to contact the european consumer center and got quickly their answer. i was sorry of taking those circumstances but finally that made them woke up. i had then contact with gerry, everything was treated in a friendly manner and within next 2 weeks my kilt should be delivered.
seems that they are just a little chaotic and in fact i m more happy of getting my kilt with taht delay cause it is like i ve found something that i had seen for lost ;) and that is priceless. so i m also sure of doing business with them again, cause i think their price/quality relation is unbeatable..

Im in the same boat with Scottishkilts.net

i have sent numerous emails and have even tried to call but to no avail. i am getting nervous because i want to get me american kilt before world cup to wear it with my US soccer jersey and represent the homeland. i just wish someone would email me back. i know they are swamped but if they are doing such brisk business i would think dedicated email personel would be an asset. i hope everything is alright with the order.

I'm sad to see that the Argyll jacket with the waistcoat is not the same that they show on the website (which I assume means it's different than the one Graham got). I really liked that style, as I hadn't seen it anywhere else online.

Back to the drawing board, I guess...

Unhappy Im Having the same problem

    Hi

I too am having a nightmare getting scottish kilts to responde to emails!! I ordered my first kilt approx five weeks ago and heard nothing at all but my credit card was charged. I rang on monday to find out what was going on and was told it would be here by the end of the week. It hasn't appeared! just phoned now and apparently it is sitting on the desk to be sent this pm!!! is it just me or is that a tad conveniant!! I am starting to panic that a) its never going to appear. B) the size will be totally wrong or c) the quality will match up with the service (i.e. shocking). Has anyone else ordered a prince charlie outfit from them so would have an idea about the quality. Its an 8yard 16oz kilt for my wedding and I have also ordered a matching plaid for my wedding so it needs to be right.

ps. sorry about my shocking spelling

I had a rough time getting them to respond to emails, but finally, Mr. McSweeney sent me the email that my Argyle outfit was on the way, and a week later I had it.

Be patient, man, it will turn up.

    Viking Technology myriad Web sites

I hate to sound like a broken record, but there are other merchants within Scotland and without who are more responsive. Someone said earlier in this thread that all merchants sometimes have problems, and that's true; but the various names under which Viking Technlogy does business experience far more than their fair share. The quality of their products and their service is just plain poor far too often.

Jst so you know, the following Web sites are all fronts for Viking Technology, Inc.:
    Scottish Shopper (http://www.scottishshopper.com/)
    Irish Kilts (http://www.irishkilts.net/)
    Masonic Themes (http://www.masonicthemes.com/)

    Clan Heritage (http://www.rrmcian.com/pages/rrmcian.htm)
    Tartan Web (http://www.tartanweb.com/)
    Gifts-Scotland (http://www.gifts-scotland.com/)

I'll stop going on about Viking now. Fair warning given though.

    Thank you,
    Scott Gimore

I ordered a jacket/waistcoat. 8 yard 16 oz wool kilt, and dress sporran from Scottishkilts and their affiliates, and I have always been completely satisfied. Gealic Themes seems to produce a large number of items sold in most Scottish shops (online and physical). I know that all the kilt hose I have purchased locally have been Gealic Themes. I had an issue with communication when I first ordered, but David was a big help and has always responded to my questions when he wasn't run off his feet with business.

Thanks for all your work on that head's up Scott.

There are soooo many folks riding this kilt boom, doing business in soooo many different ways, with soooo many different business cultures.

Some treat us like meat. Some treat us like personal friends.

I still hang my hat on the old adage, "You can have any two of price, quality, and service." And that's with a well run business. Sadly, some vendors offer none of the above.

I endeavor to avoid the middle men - companies that stock other companies products and resell them.

Even ordering from people who make their products I've had adventures when I drift off into their resale items.

Its a matter of being attentive to the experiences of others on the boards and learning from your own experiences. Just because some vendor has a great price on a product doesn't mean its actually in stock, that they can get it anytime soon, or that they'll ship the right size/color.

If the product isn't one that's sold direct, like Lochcarron kilt hose, then I email/call around to find out who has the size and color I want in stock ready to ship. All the same hose, just resold by many vendors. I did a LOT of waiting for kilt hose before I got smart and asked up front.

Think it through. Can you imagine the size of the warehouse that would be needed if some of these resellers really had all the goods they advertise on hand ready to ship?

Yeah, I know you guys know all this.

I do think one of the biggest contributions made to this board is sharing the not so smooth experiences with vendors. I am VERY greatful for the shares about he-who-shall-not-be-named's long delays just before I was gonna send my hard earned dinero for a place in line.
