So... Couple of kilts in the pipeline.

So... Couple of kilts in the pipeline.

I've got a mate who's been toying with the idea of getting into the kilt for a while. We've known each other for more years than I care to remember and have a great mutual respect for each other but we both acknowledge that we have addictive personalities. So far in life we've managed to avoid dangerous drugs but we've both skirted around drink (too much on occasion) and cigarettes. He's managed to quit smoking (smuggly) although I do have the odd one now and again. He's avoided the kilt thus far as he's watched me sink into this madness but he admires the way I really couldn't give a Tinkers Cuss for the sniggering uninitiated as I stroll, carefree and kilted, through where ever I happen to be at the time. He has told me that the kilt is not for him as he already has a shed full of fishing tackle that is seldom used but he couldn't live without when he bought it so he knows where a new addiction may lead.

As I am such a good friend, I keep sending him weblinks to kilt related bargins and thus far, he has managed to resist. I've been trying to keep my suggestions to a tight budget as I know that big outlay will deter rather than encourage so I've sent him links to Heritage Poly-V Kilts and the like. I saw the thread on here posted by Trefor (McClef) and thought that the Braveheart kilt made by Bobilishious was absolutely fantastic. I emailed the bobilishious ebay link to my mate explaining that at these prices and for the apparent quality of the end kilt, it was absolutely unbeatable and he should really have a look and consider wool rather than Poly V. Bit of a once in a lifetime opportunity if you ask me... (You can see where this is going can't you?)

I Had a think about how a 38" ready made 16oz wool, 8 yard Kilt in Auld Lang Syne Brown (Very earthy) would suit his requirements. It was, I think, £139 and I also looked at a made to measure 16oz 8 yard Auld lang Syne Modern for £119. I did like the brown one but after finding a picture of a kilt in Auld Lang Syne Modern on t'internet I decided it was way too busy, sent him the photo I'd found and suggested to my friend that he wait a bit and keep checking back for ones he may like better as Mr Chalmers (Bobilishious) doesn't keep them up for long. There is nothing there at the moment by the way but that's possibly due to the hols and avoidance of a backlog. Anyway...

At the time of shufftying there was also a made to measure, 13oz Johnstone Modern on the same page for £119. I suggested he might consider this pleated to stripe (yellow over green, with a bit of a bluey mauve thrown in... Strathmore mills I'm guessing.) So I gets to thinking about how I'VE always wanted a stripe pleated kilt and much as I like them, how I've NOT yet gone for the Gordon Mil jobbie from WPG that is truly a beaut and how there is two day's left to run on the auction and I'm thinkin' MY name's John... and I'm mee mother's Son and after an hour of agony! (and feeling hot and clammy, and inability to concentrate and and and) ... Peeeowwww... I'd fired the 'Confirm Bid' button.

We then have the obligatory wait for another kiltie to start the bid war but surprisingly either everyone was out enjoying themselves and not doing ebay (it WAS quite close to Christmas) or everyone is skint (me included by the way...) or no one called Johnstone was up and about.

Anywhoo. I bin an' gone an' won it din I so it will be here, err... as and when... My mate then turns up for a mid Christmas / New Year social and says,
"I looked at the link to that Johnstone kilt you sent me but someone else bought it"...

    "Aaaaaaagh!!!"

We had a couple of bottles of Malt and several tinnies in the house after our combined efforts toward party procurement so after we'd got a few drams going down, he decides now is the hour and off we go to ebay and pick up an 8 yd Hunting Stewart PV for him at £29.99 (£35.00 with postage, same company Cessna152Towser got his Hamilton Grey from) and Job's a goodun! My mate is Kilted! (all be it not immediately.)

He phoned me the next day to tell me I am a complete bastion (or at least I think that's what he said) and he has just spent £100 on the net buying buckle, belt, hose, flashes, sporran, pin and several other etceteras and can I please make it stop now!!! I asked him if it felt good and he just replied "What a buzz". Not half the buzz you'll get wearing it in England mate.

I predict he'll be along to X-marks shortly... You saw it here first!

You'll be very pleased. I got a Robertson Ancient from bobilishious (I haven't posted an official review because I've not had the opportunity to wear it much) a month ago. Wool at that price? Who needs PV? Good move on your part!

My first thought before opening the thread was a plunger won't do, you need a roto snake.

However, congratulations on the kilts, Bloke, and do point him out when he pops in.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

You little kilt pusher, you. Another falls to the addiction.

Now, tell him to come here for help to battle his addiction, he, he, he.

Excellent story, another new kilt for you and a new convert.
    Keep up the good work.
You are an excellent ambassador for spreading the cause of kilting.

Ahhh! So the trick of spreading the kilting insanity is finding friends with a predilection for addiction.
