    Tartan Day, Apr. 6

Just wanted to know what others were doing on Tartan Day. Our regiment (77th, Montgomery's) happens to be scheduled to do a "dog and pony show" (no battle reenactment, just educating the public) at Carlyle House on Apr. 6 in Alexandria....what they call Braddock Day. BUT, the day before Alexandria, VA is celebrating Tartan Day so several of us will go down early (Friday eve, and stay with Pvt. MacDonald, one of our lads who lives in fair Alexandria), so we can "take the town" in kilts on the 5th. Alexandria has some celebrations going on that day for Tartan Day....so, my lads and myself will have a grand time in town with our kilts a twitchin'!! Then, that evening we'll go to a local pub in regimentals (and kilts) and "take the pub" so to speak. I canna wait. Malcolm

Sorry, but isn't tartan day actually on the 6th?

Sounds like a fun night though. Have a great time.

Welcome to the forum by the way. It certainly looks like Pennsylvania is becoming a kilt mecca in the US.

Here in Memphis a small group of us are meeting up at a little pub on the east side. A few brews & darts are the order of the day. The dress uniform for the waitresses is t-shirts & micro-mini kilts

No problem, I will change it. Look at this way, by the time you guys are celebrating on the 5th, it is already Tartan Day in Scotland

In Denver, we're celebrating it on the 5th as well. I'm also in a living history group- www.renscots.org - and we're involved in the festivities. And then there's a Kilt Night gatherin' of us Colorado kilties.

Apparently the local St. Andrew's Society is doing their thing out in one or another of our suburbs. I won't be getting out there...which is a drag because the guest of honor is one of my favorite Welshmen, Tony Jones, who's the Chancellor of the School of the Art Institute now and who will be speaking on C. R. Mackintosh.

Thanks, Colin, for fixing the thread title and I edited my post so that it now makes sense. Two years ago, wifey and I went to NYC (our two daughters live there) and we viewed the Tartan Day parade. Although not as large as the St. Patrick's Parade, it was still fine. I was in kilt for the day and had a great time in the city as, for once, I got some strange looks in the subway!! Went to see the play "Geordie" at a NYC college theatre ( fine play about a young Scots lad!) and it was put on by a Scottish youth group touring the US. Ended up in an Irish Pub on the lower East side, drinking Guinness at 11 PM....Twas a fine, fine day....Well, tis always a fine day when wearin' a kilt aroon me knee! Malcolm

The traditional call is for the "Wear your kilt to work on Tartan Day" but with it being on a Sunday that won't be much fun, So I planned on wearing mine on Friday the 4th in celebration.

I intend to wear my Isle of Skye to church on Tartan Day (of course I will probably wear it Friday night too when I take my Daughter to see Spamalot for her birthday!).
