Why did I even think it?
I've been after a kilt in the Dyer tartan for some time. Problem being, it's a fairly obscure tartan that I'd have to have woven especially for the job.

One of the better kilt manufacturers here can have it woven but I'm looking at $1200au (for a 13oz) by the time I get the kilt.
Always being one for a bargain, I finally decided to see if they could do the tartan in Pakistan. Having seen an alleged Johnston which had been made there, (& being a natural sceptic!) I requested a pic of the sample tartan before I handed over the cash. After a few emails back & forth I got an email this morning "Is that O.K for the Dyer tartan"?

Is it just me, or do they truly think that one tartan is the same as another? What posessed me?

Ah, but it's SOOOO very close! (If you're color-blind... and can't tell the difference between stripe widths...)

That's very close really, there's blue in there and I see a white stripe. okay that may not be green so much as black but I like the addition of the sporty red stripes. This could be the new Dyer racing tartan!

Look at the bright side. You did ask for a sample before you handed over the cash, so now you don't have to hand over the cash.
How'd they ever insert that red?

I have no idea WHAT that thing is. Kind of a MacKenzie...maybe....sort of...
Unless it's the new "Bollywood" tartan. Do they have black & white monitors over there? *shakes head*

Don't insult the MacKenzie name by associating it with that ....that..... yeah that.
Can you send them the stitch counts and thread colors? Maybe that would work better. Maybe..... Really maybe...

It looks a whole lot like the US Navy - Edzell tartan. Sportkilt has it available.

simple answer...because money doesn't grow on trees...(yet), although you should have your head examined just to make sure everything is in place.

You know, if you are wanting a tartan that needs to be custom woven, but don't want to spend a fortune, you might really want to consider a 4 yard box pleated kilt.
I don't mean to sound like I'm advertising for myself, but I do get a lot of interest in my kilts from folks who want tartans not normally available. Having a 4 yard kilt rather than an 8 yard kilt cuts the cost of the cloth in half.
My standard price for an average sized man in a custom woven tartan is $480. That's less than what you'll pay for a nice quality 8 yard kilt in a readily avaialbe tartan. And this is for heavy weight worsted wool kilting cloth woven in Scotland.
If you are interested, link's in the sig file. I'll be glad to help.

If you were a McIntyre, you'd probably be really happy right now, though...
