    Wool, drawstring balmoral

Whilst doing a little looking around for last minute Christmas gift ideas, I came upon this item that caught my eye:

It is (obviously) a balmoral bonnet, called a "Highland Bonnet" on the site, and is made of wool blanketing and has the old fashioned drawstring instead of ribbons. It comes in navy blue, with or without red trim, black, and green.

And it only costs $12 USD.

I may need to buy one, after I get some money. Curses upon too many classes to get a job and parents who won't give me extra money!

Hope you get one. I like the wool driving hats or what ever they're called more than those trad bonnets. Kangaroo brand I think.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Jason Townsend caters to Rev. War/F&I War and Mountain man/Hudson Bay reenactors. Their items are sometimes mainstream in accuracy, but this bonnet is roughly patterned after an older design appropriate to the period.

Should be of fairly nice quality.

I have one of these in the green. It is rather "rustic" in terms of material and construction but not at all bad...I rahter like mine.

I just ordered one of these a few days ago- haven't received it yet though. Townsend has a good reputation for quality products.

I ordered the green, so will how it is when it arrives. I have a black one from another source but is not a draw string one size fits all.

Still waiting for money. Apparently there was a hiccough when my dad tried to transfer some cash to me. I'll order one when I get the chance, and post pics.

I had one of the green "Rogers Rangers' one's from Panther Primitive (same type as found at Townsend). Mine was a wee bit pricer because it was fully lined.

I removed the 'pom' & since the bloody ribbon kept coming untied on me, I whip stitched the back split. I also removed the black cockade that came on mine & stitched a swatch of Ancient Mackay tartan on it as a badge flash, placed my clan badge upon it & a few small blackish-green rooster hackles behind all that & wore it every where (kilted or not)!

    Enjoy!!

Here is a pic of that same bonnet from townsend after removing the pom pom...remember as this was an historical event, they didnt have poms in the 1740's.
