Acceptable attire?
This is my normal daily attire (with different tartans of course):

I was wearing this today when someone walks up to me and informed me that the Balmoral is not to be worn with this type of sporran. Now, I know there is no kilt police, but I do wish to appear in what is acceptable.
Advice anyone?

I do not see anything wrong with that outfit, of course I've been told that I can't wear my kilt without my Sgian Dubh, did they give a reason?

No, they gave no reason. And I thought it a bit funny that this "advice" came from a person who was clad in a t-shirt and jeans.

To be honest it looks good but ,
when ever I see someone with a hat thats not pipeing its always screams TOURIST, I was in a shop in edinburgh and an American (might have been Canadian I cant tell the differance) purchased a fantastic outfit PC, nice Kilt tasfully coloured socks etc looked fantastic , then proceeded to slap a Tam on his head. spoiled the effect (Archie the inventor??) but thats just my opinion I dont like hats unless Im pipeing.

Take it from a Scotsman, wearing a Balmoral outside of the Army or the Pipe Band is fairly unusual.
There are no hard and fast rules as to what outfits you can and cannot wear a Balmoral with, so I see absolutely no reason why you can't wear it with a particular sporran.
Next time someone tells you what you can or cannot do tell them your buddy from Scotland says they are talking absolute rubbish.

They prob think your hat goes with a horsehair sporron, like no1 dress . If you wear a hat people will ask you about bagpipes. if you dont they will ask you about your underwear status, if you wear Trousers people will ignore you
cant win
but looks sharp

Yes. Get the person's license plate number and call the local looney bin! You look fine, and whoever told you that is an absolute nutter.
