Advice please
I have mentioned that I would try to attend the Fergus Celtic Festival, aside from a kilt, shirt, hose/boots; would it be OK to wear a regular tweed sports jacket, or would I be out of line?

Is it cut for a kilt or is it cut for trousers?

I wouldn't say that you would be out of line, but most people don't wear a regular sports jacket because they are too long and they look disproportionate when wearing a kilt.
Have you got a local tailor who could convert it to a shorter length? If not go with it until you can get something that looks more traditional.
Alternatively forego the jacket and dress more casually with a polo shirt. It's more about how you feel and what you are comfortable in.
More important is to have fun and have a great day.

For summer games here, I wouldn't wear a jacket unless I was in a formal capacity. Polo shirt or cotton shirt is fine. Maybe see you there; wear a dandelion!

Ok, 86 the tweed sports jacket, would a "kilt/peasant shirt" be Ok worn with a leather vest?

I would suggest that you wear what you would wear if not kilted, above the waist, appropriate to the venue, occasion and weather.

Do you mean a ghillie shirt? If so some people love them and others hate them as they appear to costumey. Personally I like them and with a leather vest it would look good although somewhat Errol Flynn like.

First I would like to say that unless you are part of a band, military organization or a group that tells you how to dress, a kilt is a piece of clothes and how you wear it is up to you. If you like the look of your tweed jacket wear it, the longer skirt of a jacket cut for pants may interfere with the swish of the pleats, but, most people will not know, those in the know will not tell you that you are wrong, those that tell you that is is "wrong" are not worth listening to.
Now having said that, we all have looks that we like, and there is no reason not to express our feelings. Peasant shirt and leather vest should look fine. Depending on the style of vest any shirt should look good.

I always wear a leather vest, would look naked without it; most would not even recognize me.
Errol Flynn, wow this is going to be a good week!

While I agree that what you choose is up to you, how many folks do you want grimacing behind your back? So-called "Gillie Shirts" aren't often worn to Highland Games that I've seen here in S. Ont. You'd get away with it fine, but I'm never worried about what folks say to me (I can answer them) it's what they think but don't say that concerns me because I can never answer that, and I wouldn't want a lot of folks looking down on me but smiling and saying nothing. The thought embarasses me.
You got good advice a bit back; wear above the waist what you'd be wearing were you not wearing a kilt, and you'll fit in well.
