Any -First-Hand- Experience With Pakistani Jackets?

I'm interested in hearing if anyone has purchased (directly or through a middle-man like Skye or Glengarry) jackets made in Pakistan. I'm very familiar with the quality of their doublets, but am curious as to how they do with Regulation Doublets, Prince Charlies, and the like.

    Hi,

I own more than one. The benchmark of any article of clothing (in fact anything) from Pakistan or anywhere else is this - am I getting value for money?

If a person is going to wear a jacket, all day, every day, then they want the best quality material made to the highest standards. In reality, anything less than made to measure, will not be good enough. If we take an 8 hour day and a 5 day week and a 48 week year, we get 1920 wearing hours. Even your best suit will be hard pressed to stand up to that usage.

On the other hand, if a person only wears a jacket for a few hours once a year to a Burns Supper, then off-the-peg is good enough. If we take the same 1920 wearing hours, but this time an 'event' that lasts for 4 hours every month we get 40 years. Which is not bad for one garment.

So, do my Pakistani made jackets give me Value For Money? Of course they do. For the £400 to £600 quoted for one made to measure jacket, I can buy 3 off the peg jackets (different colours and styles) and am able to ring the changes for different events. That makes the 40 years increase to 120 years!

Value for money - Oh yes.

    Regards

    Chas

My black argyle is a made-in-Pakistani garment.

My tailor, who sized it down for me (12" drop), said that the construction was "odd" but well-made (the buttons were hard to access to swap out). Poor guy had never worked on a kilt jacket before... he referred to it as "that military-looking jacket".

I have a PC made by Geoffrey tailor in Pakistan. Cheap & does the job -- meaning the 2 or 3 times a year I wear it for formal occasions. I'm quite happy with it. If I wore it any more often than that, I would be disappointed, as it's not built with everyday use in mind.

I'm still saving for my Argyll and PCJ from Geoffrey, so can't comment on their jackets, but the brogues I got from them were delivered EXACTLY when they said they'd arrive, superbly packed (hand stitched canvas bag) and looked pretty good for the money at first sight.

I used to repair shoes for a living so I'm pretty familiar with good and bad quality shoes. The ones I got from them were worth a LOT more than I paid for them and were of VERY high quality.

I sent a mail to thank them and got a response within 15 minutes.

    Hope that helps.

Beware that you don't buy ANYTHING from Great Highlandwear. They are rip-off artists extraordinaire. PayPal is now trying to get my refund from them. I have heard that there are other Pakistani firms that do give good service.
    Good luck,
    Ron

    not SKYE

I got a nice PC from Josh, aka NorCal Piper, aka SKYE HIGHLAND OUTFITTERS. He can tell you more, but my recollection is that he specifies that his tailors are not in Pakistan. His website shows their Argyll as coming from Scotland- MADE there. I hope he will speak up and clarify this. Like so many X markers, he is friendly and easy to deal with. If you will post your budget, I expect some other retailers can offer advice.

I recently bought one when my tailored PC shrunk in the closet. Came with a vest as well. Both fit good and I wear them for formal occasions about four times a year. I would buy another one again. Have a link to the pic of it.

Good point - Based on the patterns of the doublets and the pipes he was initially selling, I assumed at least some of his stuff was being made overseas. Assumption on my part - apologies.

I've dealt with Geoffrey in the past - I think I bought a crossbelt, spats and a few tunics through them. Workmanship was pretty good, but I remember the fabric being a kind of gaudy polyester. I also remember them being like $60 for each jacket, which I remember thinking was a steal - although this was about 16 years ago. I've been thinking about shoes as well... might be worth looking in to.

I really want to find an actual maker rather than a middleman. I'm considering Hakim Din, as they've been around for a while as well. They're pipes are reliably sh*te, but I'm curious about uniform parts.
