    Argyle question

A good friend of mine who is getting married this summer, wants his groomsmen to wear arglye jackets w / bow tie and a fly plaid. He got a good deal on a group of argyle jackets ( he likes them better than the PC) His soon to be wants the fly plaid as she likes the look.

But I don't know about the look? any other opinions?

I'm not sure about the look either the only time I've seen anything like that was in this thread

However it's not even a fly plaid.

I think argyles look fine with a fly plaid. Some may argue but thats my opinion. Anyways its thier wedding, and if the bride to be wants fly plaids, give her fly plaids. Heres a couple of pics of me in my argyle and fly plaid so you can see what it looks like anyway.

Well, I'm anti-flyplaid. So, I guess I see them the same as I see them with a PC.

An Argyll jacket seems a bit too informal to have a fly plaid attached to it. Seems not so outta place on a Prince Charlie.

For that matter, I'm not crazy about fly plaids on formal jackets either. And many brooches leave one big permanent hole on your garment too.

I pipe at weddings throughout the year. And some brides request some really goofy things. More than once I've been asked to wear a kilt sewn from her family tartan. I've had brides instruct me to rotate my kilt 180 degrees because everyone knows the pleats go in front. A coupla brides insisted on me wearing boutonnieres - the pipe drones rest against my left shoulder, it doesn't enhance my playing.

So I don't get terribly excited when a bride wants something done to her unique specifications. It may be her charter, but it's my boat.

For the record, I have no fly plaids.

    Slainte yall,
    steve

So.... the bride's that have requested you wear a kilt in their family tartan... did THEY supply said garment? That could be cool, especially if you got to keep it! And, how do you reply back to the "pleats" issue with the really numpty ones?? Gotta be a fine line for that...

Maybe a little education is in order. Perhaps they can be convinced. If they insist on going with it (AND are willing to provide the fly plaid) then go for it. Heck, its only for one day.

I'd say, have the groom wear the plaid and spend the would-be groomsmen plaid money on Scotch.
