    Balmoral Color

I am seeking the advice of the rabble - many of you have been wearing and accessorizing kilts for quite some time and will have first-hand experience with what goes well with what. I'm purchasing a balmoral to wear with my new Jones Modern kilt, but I will also wear it with other attire. I'm likely to use it as a cold weather hat, which means everything from jeans and a flannel shirt to dress slacks and a sport coat. I tend to wear neutral colors - greys and earth tones.

I appreciate the advice and comments of all and sundry.

So, the colors I am considering: maroon, dk. green, dk. khaki, desert tan.

    And the tartan:

I'd go with the Maroon. Particularly where you like to wear neutral colors, the maroon will add a splash of color without being gaudy or overstated, will compliment any earth-toned apparel you might otherwise wear, and in this case, will coordinate with the minor color of the tartan.

I think the desert tan will go with just about anything.

Plus one for the Maroon. Ken nailed it on the head with the whole splash bit. The green might be too green with that tartan for my taste and khaki, tan would just be underwhelming.

As you can see in my avatar, I wear black with a red toorie. But I have been considering getting a dark green because I think it would look better with my ancient hunting green and when my lovely wife gets around to making my ancient dress red it will coordinate with the green in that tartan. Although I have also been thinking about getting a Carolina blue to honor my adopted state and give a nod to the Scottish blue bonnet. So, maybe just pick your favorite color.

Any of them would look great. For some reason the beige one appeals to me, with that tartan. I think because it's the one that contrasts most in a dark v light way.

It's odd, a while back I got a Lovat Balmoral to wear with my grey-green tweed jacket. After wearing it a few times I went back to wearing the black Balmoral I've had since the 1980s... I like the contrast. I sold the Lovat one to an XMarker.

I like the idea of the maroon one but also think the khaki would work well. I think both go so very well with loads of other colours.

Personally, I prefer the maroon. The contrast is what I like. Early on, when I got into the kilted world, I'd try to be matchy-matchy. No more! I even wear the Isle of Skye kilt with claret hose...no match, but the contrast is dynamite

Thanks, all - I was leaning toward maroon because of versatility and picking up the stripe in the tartan. Also leaning toward the Canadian Khaki (the dark one). It's not so apparent in the picture of the tartan, but on my sample there is a subtle dark khaki tone around the red stripe and I think that bonnet would complement it well.

As Allen said "pick your favorite". I appreciate your comments and they confirm that I'll be good no matter which one I settle on. I'll probably end up getting two.
