Black Shirt/Vest
As you all know, or at least should know, a lot of fellows wear a nice white shirt and a black argyle vest with their kilt, especially pipers.
What I would like to see is that same thing but, with a black shirt and black vest. Does anyone have a picture of this?
I think it might look pretty interesting but, I can't quite make it out!
What are your opinions on this look?

I asked about something similar in this thread, and someone directed me then to Panache's picture and thread here. That might help.
Otherwise, if you can wait until after the weekend, I ought to have pictures together of my all black kilt ensemble, which will include a black shirt, black tie, black waistcoat, and a black Argyle jacket.

I myself like the white shirt/black waistcoat combo. The black on black will work out fine too.

Some people feel that an all black or something close to that is a tough look to pull off. I don't think so, you just have to carry yourself with a certain attitude. Let everyone know, with the way you carry youself, that you meant to wear black on black and everything will be fine. I tend to think that when it comes to a lot of black in an ensemble, think Johnny Cash type attitude.

A Dissenting Opinion
I don't really think that the "all black" Johnny Cash/Goth look works with traditional highland attire. For what it's worth, any time one has to assume an "attitude" to pull off their style of dress, it seems to me that they have become a poser in a costume. There is a reason that traditional dress follows certain forms; it's done because it works right out of the box, first time, every time.
Johnny Cash, a Mafia Don, or a lounge singer in Las Vegas can probably be excused for wearing a black shirt with a black tie, a black waistcoat and a black jacket, AND TROUSERS... but with a kilt? I don't think so.

It's hardly "Traditional Highland Dress."

I have a virtually all-black outfit (no tie), myself, but I think the direction my hair is going, I should start thinking of an all-gray.

With that philosophy thankfully you're going grey and not bald then!

I think it's a great look, but hardly traditional.

I didn't mean to imply that it was traditional, it certainly is not. I also didn't mean to imply that one had to assume a certain attitude, I meant to say that you have to already have it. Some people can pull off a lot of black in their form of dress, some cannot. I say if he has the attitude go for it, if not try something traditional. I think it would look rather sharp with something along the lines of the Highland Granite tartan. Traditional no, but sharp.
