    Brooches/Pins

I was wondering what kind of pin or brooch to use for securing the mini flyplaid to the Prince Charlie jacket for formal events?

Also, how far down and in what way is the kilt pin worn? Is it supposed to attach both aprons together, or just weigh it down?

    Re: Brooches/Pins

From what I've seen the plaid hangs in front a bit below armpit level and the broach just below the collarbone with the plaid going through the epaulette and hanging down the back a bit below the seat. I'm no authority, but that's what it looks like in pictures I've seen

John, I've read in several sources that the kilt pin should be worn about 3 inches up from the selvedge and 3 inches in from the fringe. On my kilt, I've moved my kiltpin approx. 1/2 inch to the right so that it lines up nicely with the centerline of one of the vertical stripes of the tartan. It should only be attached to the outer apron so as to act as a bit of weight. If pinned through both layers, you risk damaging the wool and the pin should enough shear force be applied. As for pinning the flyplaid...I afraid I've never worn one. I'll have to pass that one to others with more experience there.

I don't know from personal experience, but based on
those I've seen and some photos from catalogs (Scottish Lion),
You do fasten it just below the collar bone. Most I’ve
seen fasten it a round brooch with a stone or heavy pin that crosses
    the brooch.

p.s. I have a question about the Prince Charlie jacket which
I’ll post as a new thread. I could use some advice.

Thanks for the info, looks like I've been good to go, as I wear the kiltpin as a weight on the front apron only at about finger-tip level, maybe a bit off-kilter instead of straight, but then again, my friends will tell you all that in general Im an off-kilter kind of personality, lmao.

As for the fly, I have a plain but good looking circular brooch with a large (3/4 inch) purple color stone in it that should go well. As it should be worn below the colar bone, and it's a large diamiter pin, I'll just use it as a weight instead of putting it through my PC jacket.

I wouldn't do that. If you move fast you could wind up with a nasty bruise. Best secure it to the jacket

Well, as the pin for this cloak pin is almost 1/8th og an inch in diamiter, I think I'll just find a more suitable brooch instead of ruining my PC jacket with the one I have now.
