    Cardigans and Kilts

Hi, I'm a new member and I am wondering if It is too casual to wear a kilt with a cardigan. I have a forest green cable knit cardigan and a california state tartan (I'm from Southern California). I can't find anything that says otherwise, but is it too tacky or okay? Thanks in Advance.

A cardigan is perfectly acceptable in conjunction with the kilt for informal occasions.

Agreed. A nice cable knit sweater of any type looks good with a kilt.

Well met jlove. If the cardigan fits the climate, I can't think of a better alternative to vests and jackets for everyday wear. The "10 looks for 1 kilt" thread will certainly show this to be true. Finding comfortable clothes to accommodate the kilt is easy when the clothes are already a part of daily choices. Welcome from Oxford, MS.

Cardigans in general are a nice in-between choice if shirtsleeves will not do but a jacket would look a bit too formal. I have a nice Aran-style cardigan that, in my humble opinion, looks superb with the kilt. You'll want to make sure that your cardigan is not too long, though.

There are no rules - just inherited practice. Wear what you like and feel comfortable in and enjoy!

Hi, jlove, and welcome to X Marks from the bottom end of Africa.
While a cardigan is casual wear (and in this country not usually required in summer) there is no harm in wearing one with a kilt.
    Regards,
