Casual Kilt
Ok, I posted another thread about this, but I wanted to get eveyone's advice and opinion. There seems to be a lack of kilts that fit into the same category as a "casual athletic" short. I know that King Kilts make a Hawaiian muumuu type of kilt, but it is a little too flowery to me (although Ron looks quite good in one)! I am looking for a kilt that fills the same role as a well worn pair of loose athletic shorts (and for cooler weather possibly a pair of sweat pants). I have been wearing my SK for this purpose, but it seems to be a waste, both because of the cost and the fact that it does not hold a pleat well when worn more than once or twice. I find it especially susceptible to creasing when sitting for more than a short time. I love it otherwise.
Any way, my question is if anybody else has experienced this, if they have found a satisfactory value priced kilt to to address this, and if not, if they would be willing to pay in the $30 - $50 US for such a kilt?

They're more than twice your price-range, but have you looked into UKs "Spartan"? They definitely qualify as "casual athletic". A little too casual for my taste.
...and I think someone said something about Museum Replicas having some cheap kilts for 30 or 40 dollars, if you just want something for the house.

You're probably not gonna like this... but I suggest if its cheap you want, just wear shorts. Save your hard earned money and get a few good and well made kilts - utility or otherwise - rather than a bunch of pleated rags. You'll look better, feel better, and have something to wear that you won't unintentionally embarrass yourself.

Iolaus, something from UK is on my list. Are these wash and wear for multiple times?
What I was trying to find out was if there was a kilt as comfortable to wear (and in the same price range) and as easy to maintain, as the 12 year old athletic shorts I wear.

Blu, that is the advice I want. I want ot wear a kilt full time, but I don't see a viable alternative to the casual athletic short that does not have to be ironed every time worn.

I'm with Blu.
When I'm bumming around the house, I'm either in my robe (in the morning) or I wear loose shorts. If I'm leaving the house, then I change.
(Oh, and I'm not one of the 24/7 guys; I wear kilts maybe about twice a week or so.)

If you want a cheap knock around kilt find some cheap poly blend fabric and make one. It isn't that tough and you can find the stuff either on line or in a decent fabric store for $5 to $6 a yard.

Yes, they are. Now it even further pushes the boundary of "What is a kilt". Even I think the spartan is a skirt (I wear mine around the house, and it is the most comfortable thing I have ever worn). Bsically it is like the athletic shorts that I see guys wearing these days, but with no crotch.
Wash and wear (and like any kilt needs less washing than pants).

Adam, I had not seen the Spartan on UK's wite. Just took a look. It looks like they are similar to what I am looking for, although the only color that would work for me is the black. They do look very skirt like, and in the red and green I would feel like I was trying out as a cheerleader! No prices on the UK site, and I can't give them a call right now. Anybody know the price?
